ITV has announced that its ITVBe channel will close in June 2025, and be replaced by a new channel focusing on quiz and game shows.

Launched in 2014, ITVBe has primarily been the home for reality and unscripted programmes, such as The Only Way Is Essex (Towie).

The reality shows currently airing on the channel, including Towie and the Real Housewives franchise, will now move to ITV2, the broadcaster said.

It has not been announced which programmes will populate the schedule for ITV Quiz.

However, the network said it planned to use the channel slot to “draw on ITV’s popular, market-leading UK quiz and game shows”.

Popular quiz and game shows broadcast on ITV include The Chase, Tipping Point, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, The 1% Club, Deal or No Deal, Catchphrase and Jeopardy!.

ITV said Towie’s move to ITV2 would mark a homecoming for the programme, as the show originally launched on that network in 2010.

Viewing figures for the show have dropped in recent years, but its move to ITV2 could give ratings a boost.

The broadcaster said Towie remained one of the most popular titles on its streaming service ITVX.

It added that programmes such as Towie and Real Housewives would be at home alongside the network’s other reality formats, including Love Island and Big Brother.

A beloved reality show has been axed after 11 series on air as ITVBe is set to shut down and replaced by a brand new quiz show channel.

The dating series Dinner Date first launched in 2010, but has not been picked up by ITV2, where many of the biggest shows on the channel will move to, according to The Sun.

While the channel has not officially announced the end of the series, it was noticeably absent from a ITV press release, issued on Wednesday.

A source close to production has now confirmed to the publication that the format is not returning as ITVBe prepares to rebrand as ITV Quiz in June 2025.

The channel insider said: ‘There is no new series of Dinner Date currently commissioned, but if it did return, it would be on ITV2/ITVX.’

The programme sees single men or women pick their blind dates based on their menus, before meeting them at their homes.

It ran for over a decade and even had several celebrity specials, quickly becoming a fan favourite in the UK’s reality TV list.

MailOnline has contacted ITV for comment.

ITV has responded and confirmed that the series, which was last commissioned in 2022, will be available to watch on ITV2 from June. All series will be available on ITVX.

It comes after it was announced that ITV is set to shut down a major channel after 11 years of broadcasting and reality shows will face a huge schedule shake-up.

The Only Way is Essex (TOWIE), The Real Housewives of Cheshire and Real Housewives franchises will all be moving from ITVBe which first launched in 2014.

Instead they will air on ITV2, which is set to become the new home of reality TV, following ITVBe’s closure in June 2025.

Amongst ITV2’s ‘supercharged’ offering of programmes are Olivia Attwood: The Price of Perfection, Family Guy and G’Wed.

While Love Island will return to the channel in the summer and Big Brother in the autumn, according to ITV.

TOWIE’s move falls at the same time as the show’s 15th anniversary and it originally aired on the channel for its first 12 series.

It comes as ITV2 secures its place as the ‘UK’s most watched digital channel for 16-34 year olds’ so far this year, the broadcaster claimed.

Love Island and spin offs have attracted 2.2 billion streams, while all the versions of Big Brother have been streamed more than 100million times since 2023.

New shows are also set to join the channel, including Sam & Billie: Sister Act featuring siblings Sam Faiers and Billie Shepherd.

The retirement of ITVBe will see the channel transformed into ITV Quiz instead.

Celebrity Big Brother’s launch night on ITV1 earlier this month pulled in the highest 16-34 audience of the night, more than all four competitor channels combined.

However, it did attract the lowest launch show ratings in the show’s history

Mickey Rourke sparks outrage with Celebrity Big Brother entrance

Overnight figures showed that the series pulled in a peak of 2.1 million viewers, with an overall average of 1.8 million.

This was down on last year’s peak of 3.2 million viewers, when the series returned for its first celebrity incarnation since 2018.

The iconic reality show kicked off its new series on on April 7, with Hollywood stars Mickey Rourke and Jojo Siwa joining names including Trisha Goddard and Chesney Hawkes in the famous house.

While this number was down on the previous year, fans have taken to X to note one key issue with the figures.

They noted that Celebrity Big Brother typically has a younger audience, and many of them likely watched the launch on ITVX.

This year, the CBB launch was also streamed live on YouTube, and neither of these viewing figures would have been included in the overnight ratings.
