Season 1 of Wednesday dropped in November 2022, and ever since then, fans have eagerly dissected each exciting, creepy, and surprisingly humorous moment of the Netflix series. Jenna Ortega will have creative input in the second season, which is amazing news since she has embodied this character so well. Although viewers know which cast members are coming back and which new ones have been added to the popular TV series, there are still a lot of surprises in store. One big question that will remain unanswered until Wednesday season 2 becomes available on Netflix is how many episodes there will be.
According to IMDb, Wednesday season 2 will have six episodes. This would be a huge change from a typical broadcast TV season which tends to have 22 episodes. There are several reasons why a shorter second season is a great idea.
Why Wednesday Season 2 Should Be A Short Season

If Wednesday season 2 only has six episodes, then each episode could have a bigger budget, which would mean that each episode could look even better than the first season. Wednesday broke a cool filming record and each episode seems to have a decent budget. Nevermore Academy looks suitably eerie in the first season and it’s the perfect location for a Goth teen like Wednesday Addams who hates authority. However, fans would love for this setting to look even darker and more terrifyign in the second season.
Although short seasons aren’t the norm on streaming platforms, they’re a good idea since fewer episodes means a faster-paced plot and no time spent on distracting side storylines. Even the best streaming series sometimes have one or two filler episodes that don’t move the plot forward. If Wednesday season 2 is the same length as season 1 or even longer, that might mean some unnecessary plotlines. It’s also possible that some scenes will be stuffed with too many characters who don’t contribute much to the overall story. If there were only six episodes, then Wednesday season 2 can dive deeply into the main character’s stalker and a possible second monster.

While fans have shared their character wish lists for Wednesday season 2, they also want the stalker storyline to wrap up in a smart way, more creepy scenes at Nevermore Academy, and for Wednesday to be even funnier and darker than before. These things can all be accomplished in just six episodes. Having a shorter season might even make every big reveal more thrilling and powerful since viewers can really focus on them.
The Netflix/BBC co-production A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a great example of how a TV show only needs six episodes. Starring Wednesday actress Emma Sinclair, the series follows 16-year-old Pip who tries to solve the murder of a classmate. Each episode has big reveals, small and compelling character details, and just enough cliffhangers to keep things interesting without being frustrating. Wednesday season 2 could definitely do the same. This could also start an exciting trend for TV shows since it doesn’t always seem necessary to have 10 or 12 episodes in a season.
How Many Episodes Did Wednesday Season 1 Have?

Wednesday season 1 had eight episodes, which was already fewer than many other streaming series that go up to 10 or 12. While the season was full of eerie moments, fun reveals, and a career-making performance from Jenna Ortega, some might say there were one or two episodes too many. These eight episodes also found Wednesday learning more about Nevermore Academy’s traditions and quirks, diving a little into her family history, discovering the Hyde Monster’s identity, and becoming part of an awkward love triangle that not every fan enjoyed watching. The first season laid a great foundation for the second season and did so in only eight episodes. Since the fairly short first season was so impressive, there’s no reason why the second season could have only six episodes and be just as great.
What Roles Has Jenna Ortega Played In 2024?
Cairo Sweet in Miller’s Girl
Remy Aguilar in Winter Spring Summer or Fall
Astrid Deetz in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
No matter how many episodes Wednesday season 2, it’s clear that every episode will shine a spotlight on Ortega’s careful portrayal of her iconic character. She respected the famous Addams Family daughter and created her own take on her, which was cool to see. As co-creator Miles Millar told IndieWire about working on the first season:
“‘What would Wednesday do?’ was a constant conversation for us. So that exploration is something we really enjoyed about Season 1. And then also the actors finding their own voices within the characters that are written.”
