The final scene of Wednesday season 1 leaves viewers wondering who is stalking the eponymous main character, yet I have found a theory that I believe explains all of it. In 2022, the horror comedy series, Wednesday, took Netflix (and me) by storm. Starring Jenna Ortega, the show tells the story of The Addams Family’s spooky daughter, Wednesday Addams. After being expelled from yet another school, Wednesday is sent to a magical boarding school called Nevermore Academy. While there, Wednesday becomes obsessed with solving a series of mysteries plaguing the campus and surrounding town.
At the end of Wednesday season 1, Marilyn Thornhill has been defeated and Wednesday is heading home for a school break. However, as she gets into her parents’ car, she receives a strange text. It is a string of emojis implying that someone is stalking Wednesday, followed by a GIF of her with a knife in her head. This shocking final scene sets audiences up for the mystery that will surround Wednesday season 2. Thus, as we all wait for the second season to arrive, I can’t help but pose my own theories as to who Wednesday’s stalker could be.
Principal Weems Is Alive And Is Wednesday’s Stalker – Theory Explained
Why Principal Weems Would Be Stalking Wednesday

My favorite theory about Wednesday’s stalker is that it is Principal Weems, back from the dead. Though this may sound impossible, I think there is some weight to the theory. In the final episode of Wednesday season 1, Weems and Wednesday team up to get Thornhill to confess to her crimes. Weems shapeshifts into Tyler in order to confront her. However, after confessing, Thornhill sticks Weems with poison, leading to her death. Of course, without seeing Weems’ corpse being put into the ground, I can’t truly believe that Weems actually died. Thus, she may just be Wednesday’s stalker.
In an interview with Digital Spy, Gwendoline Christie said, ” I feel like Larissa Weems would not really be prepared to entertain or be dominated by anything as commonplace as death.”
The theory could occur in a number of different ways. Perhaps Principal Weems is more powerful than we thought and only pretended to succumb to the poison. There is also the chance that Weems herself wasn’t actually in the room, but sent another shapeshifter in there instead as protection. I can’t help but think that Weems’ shapeshifting abilities would allow her to overcome Thornhill’s poison somehow. Therefore, only one question remains: why would Weems be stalking Wednesday?
This is the part of the theory that is the most mysterious. After faking her death, it’s possible that Principal Weems wants to return to Nevermore, but needs to do it in a subtle way. Some may be suspicious that Weems isn’t actually Weems, but another shapeshifter. In this way, she needs to formulate a plan for her return that will prove she is who she says she is. There is a chance that she wants to include Wednesday in these plans. I wouldn’t put it past Weems to pretend to be Wednesday’s stalker, either, due to their love-hate relationship.
The Stalker Being A Shapeshifter Would Make Wednesday Season 2 A Lot Of Fun
The Possibilities Are Endless With A Shapeshifter

If Principal Weems truly is the stalker in Wednesday, her shapeshifter capabilities make this even more exciting. Throughout Wednesday season 1, audiences saw Weems use her powers, but not really to the fullest extent. Now, though, we could really dive into Weems’ abilities and how far they go. If Wednesday and Weems team up once again, then I’m sure Weems’ abiltiies could come in handy for Wednesday, who will likely have yet another big mystery to solve. Weems’ shapeshifting allows her to get into all sorts of situations that Wednesday may not be able to swing.
Even if Weems isn’t the stalker, having a shapeshifter stalker would make Wednesday season 2 even more fun. By constantly shifting forms, the stalker would keep Wednesday (and the audience) from being able to pin down who they are. If they never show their true face, then no one will know who they are. This adds a whole new level of mystery that a regular stalker simply wouldn’t have. In reality, it is the perfect cherry on top for a show that is already made better by its magic and paranormal characters. A shapeshifter stalker makes Wednesday’s job even harder.
Principal Weems’ Death Is Still One Of Wednesday’s Strangest Plots
Why Did Wednesday Kill Off Weems?

I can’t help but pin Principal Weems as Wednesday’s stalker because her death still doesn’t really make sense to me. Among Wednesday’s cast, Weems was one of the most interesting and enjoyable characters. Gwendoline Christie brought such a smart and cold charisma to the character that it made her a joy to watch. Furthermore, her interactions with Wednesday added a level of tension that put me at the edge of my seat even more. Despite all this, Wednesday killed Weems off without much fanfare, and I simply can’t understand why.
In this way, I am firm in my belief that Principal Weems is not dead, and furthermore, will return in Wednesday season 2.
Personally, I think Weems’ death had to be a fake-out. It doesn’t make sense for the show to introduce a character with such big goals only to kill them at the end of the season. Weems still had a lot to do in terms of fixing relations between outcasts and the people of Jericho. Additionally, her connections to Morticia and Gomez Addams give her yet another reason to be a recurring character. In this way, I am firm in my belief that Principal Weems is not dead, and furthermore, will return in Wednesday season 2.
If Weems Is Dead, Wednesday’s Stalker Could Still Be A Shapeshifter
Who Else Wednesday’s Stalker Could Be

Once again, even if Principal Weems is dead, I think Wednesday’s stalker should be a shapeshifter. This would be such an interesting twist on an already mysterious storyline. Plus, it would give Wednesday’s audiences more shapeshifter content that they would be missing without Weems around. I need to know more about shapeshifters’ abilities and just how powerful they are. Perhaps this new shapeshifter could be a student at Nevermore or a relation of Principal Weems. It seems likely that they would be a character we haven’t met before.
On the other hand, there are a few characters from Wednesday season 1 who could be the stalker as well. Since Xavier was the one to give Wednesday the phone, it could very easily be him who is stalking her. Of course, it could also somehow be Marilyn Thornhill refusing to be subdued. In reality, it could be anyone at Nevermore, from Bianca to Enid. I just hope that Wednesday’s stalker creates an opportunity to learn more about outcasts and their awesome abilities. Wednesday season 2 must raise the stakes after an incredible first season.
