Teen Found Guilty in Fatal Bogalusa High School Parking Lot Sh00ting That Claimed 14-Year-Old’s Life
19-year-old found guilty in connection with January 2024 deadly shooting at Bogalusa High School
WASHINGTON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Washington Parish jury found a 19-year-old guilty for his role in the fatal January 2024 shooting in the Bogalusa High School parking lot, District Attorney Collin Sims announced Wednesday.
In the seven-day trial, Hakheim Young was found guilty on all of the following counts:
One (1) count of second-degree murder
Two (2) counts of attempted second-degree murder

Two years ago, on Jan. 11, 2024, the incident occurred in the parking lot during a basketball game. Court evidence said the victim, 14-year-old D.J., and his two friends were fired upon before entering an unlocked vehicle to reportedly steal from it.

Young, with his co-defendant 18-year-old Keldric Harry, used an automatic weapon to unleash a “death sentence” on the teen over the crime, court documents stated. A surviving victim was shot in the leg during the incident.

In April 2026, Harry was sentenced to two 30-year sentences and a life sentence after being found guilty of the following:
One (1) count of second-degree murder
One (1) count of attempted second-degree murder
One (1) count of attempted second-degree murder

“It’s a cold, cruel world out there — and it’s like that because of people like the defendant,” Assistant District Attorney Gary Tromblay said. “A 14-year-old boy was gunned down, shot in the back… he didn’t have a chance. He was killed doing something he shouldn’t be doing… pulled on the wrong door… but he didn’t deserve a death sentence.”
Young will remain in custody before his formal sentencing set for Monday, July 27. He faces life in prison.
