SNL’s Donald Trump Interrupts and Threatens Late-Night Show Not to ‘Do Anything Too Mean’: ‘Daddy’s Watching’
James Austin Johnson returned to ‘Saturday Night Live’ as President Donald Trump during the season 51 premiere on Oct.4
New season, more Trump parodies.
Saturday Night Live continued to poke fun at Donald Trump multiple times during the season 51 premiere on Saturday, Oct. 4 — which saw Bad Bunny as host and Doja Cat as the musical guest.
During the Cold Open, Colin Jost starred as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, as he made fun of his new requirements for members of the armed services.
When mentioning the “greatest threat to freedom and democracy the world has ever known,” James Austin Johnson suddenly appeared as Trump, declaring that the threat is “late-night TV” — a reference to the ongoing saga surrounding the cancellation of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
“I’m just here keeping an eye on SNL, making sure they don’t do anything too mean about me,” Johnson, 36, as 79-year-old Trump joked. “They’d better be careful.”
“I know late-night TV like the back of my hands,” he added, revealing mismatched makeup on his body. “Not looking great right now.”

Johnson then teased that Jost, 43, should exit the sketch to go write Spirit Airlines jokes, and he also made a joke in reference to the poem that President Trump denies writing for sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“Here we are, SNL season 51. Should have called it at 50, right?” SNL’s Trump continued. “It’s so sad to see something get old and confused yet still demand constant attention.”
“Oh, well. But they’d better be on their best behavior, otherwise they’ll have to answer to my attack dog at the FCC, Brandon Carr,” Johnson added.
Mikey Day then appeared as a dancing Carr, correcting Trump and saying, “It’s actually Brendan, sir,” to which Johnson replied, “It’s crazy that you think I care.”
The parody also summarized some of the things that took place over the summer, including President Trump’s claims to have ended wars, while also seemingly starting new conflicts.
“I ended all the wars. Every single one of them, except the two main ones that are still happening and more vicious than ever,” Johnson joked. “And even though all of the government is shut down, we’re starting a new war in Venezuela soon.”
Mocking anyone who has asked where the funds for war will come from, Johnson as Trump said, “I tell them with my scams. My beautiful scams.”
The Cold Open then came to an end, with Johnson proclaiming: “Here we go, and remember daddy’s watching.”
The White House reacted to the show mocking Trump on Sunday, Oct. 5. In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said: “Reacting to this would require me to waste my time watching it. And like the millions of Americans who have tuned out from SNL, I have more entertaining things to do — like watch paint dry.”
Saturday Night Live airs weekends on NBC.
