Lady Pamela Hicks’ funeral date announced – and it clashes with major royal event

Lady Pamela Hicks’ funeral is set to take place in a matter of days, and will clash with a major royal event. Lady Pamela, who was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth II, had many royal connections as the daughter of Lord Mountbatten, great-great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, and first cousin of Prince Philip.
The 97-year-old, who passed away last week at the age of 97, will have her funeral this Saturday on June 13. It has been reported that the funeral will begin at 3pm at Brightwell Baldwin Church in Oxfordshire. This is the same day as Trooping the Colour – an annual event that marks the monarch’s official birthday.
This means that it is not known whether or not King Charles will attend.
It is also significant as Lady Pamela has been a royal in attendance at Trooping a few times, including in 1993 and 1969.
After it was revealed that Lady Pamela had died, Buckingham Palace issued a statement that read: “His Majesty was greatly saddened to learn of the death of Lady Pamela Hicks, a sorrow tempered by the fondest memories and deepest gratitude for her long life and loyal service to Queen Elizabeth.
“The King and Queen’s thoughts are with Lady Pamela’s family, as they mourn a woman whose warmth, wit and perspicacity always made such an impression, and who will be so dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.”
Lady Pamela’s daughter India Hicks announced her death on June 5. She wrote: “My mother died peacefully today.
“Whilst there is no tragedy in the death of a 97-year-old who has lived a full life I know grief will be unavoidable, lurking around waiting for me, but today I am simply grateful that she was my Mother.
“And through the prism of a crowded and remarkable past, she made incomparable company, carrying her memories lightly, and always with humour.
“My mother maintained right up to the end, the impeccable style, sharp mind, and effortless charm that made her not only a cherished institution, but truly the last of her kind.”
It is not known whether any members of the Royal Family will attend the funeral.
