I was on Dickinson’s Real Deal – I couldn’t believe David’s rude complaint about my four-year-old daughter when the cameras stopped rolling
A woman who went on David Dickinson’s show has shared a surprising interaction with him that happened when the cameras stopped rolling.
Janine McDonald, 54, went on Dickinson’s Real Deal back in 2017 with her daughter who was four years old at the time. She had taken a lamp that belonged to her mother and had been in the family for some time in the hopes to get some cash.
After spending hours queuing, the professional home organiser from Manchester eventually got to speak with an expert who made her an offer for the lamp.
Dickinson’s Real Deal first aired on ITV back in 2006 and has seen many hopefuls bring their prized antiques and heirlooms on to be valued.
They are given the choice of accepting a dealer’s offer, or going to auction, and David, 83, usually appears to give his verdict on what the guest should do.
However, Janine revealed to MailOnline how she felt the show’s host was ‘really quite rude’ and was shocked at a comment he made about her young daughter.

After spending hours queuing, the professional home organiser from Manchester eventually got to speak with an expert who made her an offer for the lamp
She went on the show after seeing an advert calling for people to ‘come along’ to a venue in Manchester with their items.
Janine was eventually offered £310 for the lamp from the dealer, which she accepted, but noted that there was a ‘retake’ where David seemed to change his answer over what he thought she should do during the one of the offers.
She told MailOnline: ‘I was a bit like, ‘oh,’ but because he waltzes in and waltzes out again, you don’t feel like you can say anything.’
Janine shared how the valuer was ‘quite taken’ with her young daughter and ‘would have a little bit of banter with her as well’.
The dealer told Janine, ‘This is going to make a great episode’ and even ‘gave an extra little bit’ for her child.
Afterwards, there was an opportunity to have their photo taken with the antique expert and ‘have a little chat’.
However, this was when Janine claimed she experienced a less pleasant side of show host David.

‘David Dickinson came over and said to the auctioneer, the valuer, didn’t acknowledge myself or my daughter. Can you hurry up now, please? We’re not a creche,’ she explained.
Janine added: ‘I honestly felt like turning around and saying, ‘if we weren’t here, you wouldn’t have a show!’ It was actually really quite rude.’
She didn’t feel she could raise her issue with the production crew and said: ‘I didn’t, because it was all very, it’s quite impersonal, really.
‘It was very, as soon as something’s done, that’s it, you’re off, and you’re ushered out … I didn’t feel at that time because my confidence wasn’t as it is now, I didn’t feel I could actually say anything.’
Despite the interaction with David, she was happy with the money she received for the lamp and said it was a ‘very fair price’.
‘I’d spoken to my mum beforehand as to what we could accept… But by the time, I did a little bit of research whilst we were hanging around, and I looked into the auction prices… by the time the auctioneers would have taken their percentage off, and the fees and the hassle of me taking it there, picking it up, if it doesn’t sell, it’s actually more cost effective to accept the offer.’
Part of the money for the lamp was donated to charity, while the remainder was spent on taking the family out for lunch: ‘It was a nice little family gathering,’ Janine said.

Overall, Janine described her time on the show as a ‘mixed’ but ‘good experience’ and said ‘people enjoyed watching the programme’.
She added that she didn’t find the cameras filming ‘intrusive at all’ and she would be interested in ‘applying for another show’.
At the end of the episode, the dealer didn’t manage to sell the lamp on at auction.
MailOnline has approached ITV and David Dickinson for comment.
