Kate Cassidy has broken her silence on social media after learning she won’t inherit any of Liam Payne’s £24m fortune.

The American model, who dated the late One Direction star for two years, shared a casual Instagram post just hours after the bombshell revelation.

The seemingly light-hearted post came shortly after court documents revealed Payne died without a will last October.

Court documents show Payne left a total of £28,595,000, which was reduced to £24,280,000 after expenses and debts were paid.

The former One Direction member tragically died aged 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16 last year.

The documents, filed on May 1, revealed Payne died intestate, meaning he had not made a will stipulating what should happen to his money.

This legal status has significant implications for how his substantial estate will be distributed among his loved ones.

The limited Ad Colligenda Bona grant is typically used during property sales shortly after someone’s death when the estate hasn’t been fully settled.

Under UK intestacy rules, Payne’s eight-year-old son Bear is set to inherit his father’s wealth through a trust.

Power of administration of the estate has been granted to his ex Cheryl Tweedy, the mother of his son, alongside music lawyer Richard Bray.

This means Cassidy will receive nothing as she and Payne were not married or in a civil partnership.

Following the revelation, Cassidy posted an image showing the contents of her handbag to her 900,000 followers. Ignoring the news, the photo instead revealed a Starbucks sandwich and hair extensions, accompanied by the caption: “What’s in your purse??? Mine: starbucks and @glamseamless.”

Meanwhile, a source told The Mail about the news: “Liam had some very sensible people around him fora time and he adored Bear so much. He always wanted to do the right thing by him financially. It is a small consolation that Bear will never want for anything.”

Despite the inheritance news, Cassidy has continued to share glimpses of her life on social media. Earlier this week, she posted glamorous snaps from the Miami Grand Prix.

The pictures showed her sporting a black leather-look top, denim shorts and a bright red Ferrari cap as she enjoyed the event with friends. She also shared a photo of a rainbow, which prompted one fan to comment: “Liam showing up through the rainbow.”

“He had to say hello,” Cassidy replied. She has previously spoken about other “signs” she believes Payne has sent her during her grief journey.

These included finding a note with a crown and the numbers “444” at the bottom of her bag.

Kate has been open about her relationship with Liam since his death, regularly sharing tributes on social media.

In an appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, she revealed the comfort she finds in their final exchange before she left Argentina.

“I remember sitting there with him and I was going on and on about how much I love him,” she recalled. Payne had responded: “You’re acting like this is the last time you are ever gonna see me again.”

Cassidy told The Sun in March that his death “still doesn’t feel fully real”. She added: “If I knew, if I could see into the future, I would never have left Argentina.”

Payne rose to fame as a member of One Direction after auditioning for The X Factor in 2010. The band went on to sell 70 million records worldwide before going on hiatus in 2015.

Payne’s medical cause of death was confirmed as “polytrauma”, a term meaning multiple traumatic injuries. Five people were initially charged over his death in Argentina, though three have since had charges dropped.
