Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s last traces wiped from Frogmore Cottage

Frogmore Cottage, located within Home Park in Windsor, was given to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as a wedding present by the late Queen in 2018.

Frogmore Cottage is anticipated to revert to the “pre Meghan and Harry era” as £2.4million worth of renovations are set to be undone.

The last remaining ties between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the property are on the brink of being wiped out, as extensive works will likely see the house divided once more.

It had previously been transformed from two semi-detached houses into a single, larger residence after the late Queen gifted the couple the cottage as a wedding present in 2018.

However, Harry and Meghan departed the UK for California fewer than two years later, and were officially evicted from Frogmore Cottage by King Charles in 2023, since which time it has stood vacant.

The Duke and Duchess no longer possess a home on British soil, though Harry is keen to return with Meghan and their children Lilibet, four, and Archie, seven, should his security arrangements be reinstated following an ongoing Home Office review.

“It’s (Frogmore Cottage) been empty for three years. Even Andrew thought it wasn’t good enough for him to move in. Maybe if they get rid of any trace of Harry and Meghan, then someone within the royal household will fancy it,” a source said.

The transformation of the property for the Sussexes took nearly a year to complete — encompassing the creation of a yoga studio, replacement of ceiling beams and floor joists, rewiring of the electrics, and installation of new gas and water mains.

Father-of-two Harry repaid the £2.4million six months after vacating the property, which forms part of Home Park in Windsor, Berkshire.

Now, possibilities are reportedly being explored regarding how the fresh renovations will transform the residence, though it is understood it will revert to being two separate dwellings.

Referring to the royal residence’s extensive history, the source told The Sun: “It would draw the line under Frogmore Cottage’s controversial history and return it to the pre-Meghan and Harry era.”

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was offered Frogmore Cottage in return for relinquishing his lease on the nearby thirty-room Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park in 2023.

Following Harry and Meghan being presented with the property, the couple funded their own fixtures and fittings, including a £5,000 copper bathtub, and decoration by Soho House designer Vicky Charles – which included vegan paint.

They relocated there shortly before Archie’s arrival in 2019, but later that year moved to Canada. The subsequent January, they revealed plans to step back as working royals and depart the UK. They now reside in California in the US.
