Bryce James, who has been coming into his own on the court throughout this season, set a new benchmark in points for himself as he helped Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) take down one of the best teams in the country on Saturday.

James, the son of LeBron James, posted a career-best 16 points in 17 minutes of play off the bench, according to the local CBS station. He shot 6-for-10 from the field and made four 3-pointers on seven attempts, also grabbing five rebounds and getting four steals in the 60-46 victory over Grayson (Loganville, Ga.). He was named MVP of the game at the Spalding Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts, for his work.

Slam tweeted some highlights of his performance:

LeBron tweeted a couple of times during the game, including the following:

James, listed on 247Sports at 6-foot-4, committed to the University of Arizona on Jan. 1. He only had three offers, according to 247Sports, as the three-star shooting guard didn’t garner the level of interest seen for Bronny James.

James has had a slower rise over his high school career, with showings over the summer of 6.9 points and 2.2 rebounds while shooting 39% from the field on the Nike EYBL circuit and averaging 5.6 points at the Peach Jam, according to ESPN. At Hoophall, 247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein wrote that James “approaches the game like a shooter,” providing gravity and a threat off movement with the ability to release the ball quickly. He also wrote that James has added strength and looks to be “at least 6-foot-5.”

This game sets a new standard for James. Sierra Canyon, now 16-3, faces a difficult schedule over the remainder of the season, including two games against Super 25 nationally ranked Harvard-Westlake (Studio City, Calif.) and Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.).
