The Duke of Sussex has spoken publicly about his desire for reconciliation with his family

Prince Harry is set to return to Britain next month for events connected to the Invictus Games, though his wife and children will remain in California, sources have claimed.

The Duke of Sussex, 41, plans to visit Birmingham in July as part of preparations for the 2027 competition, which the city will host.

Sources have told People Magazine that Meghan Markle, 44, along with Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, are not currently expected to accompany him on the trip.

The announcement has reignited discussion about whether the Sussexes might reunite on British soil, particularly given Harry’s previously expressed wish for his children to develop a connection with their heritage in the UK.

Security remains the central issue preventing the family from travelling together, a situation that has persisted for several years.

Despite some encouraging developments earlier this year, the impasse continues.

In January, The Mail on Sunday reported that an official review determined Harry qualified for enhanced protection during visits to Britain, with a source close to the duke describing security as effectively a “formality.”

However, no formal decision has been communicated to Harry despite these positive indications behind the scenes.

While circumstances could shift before his July visit, sources indicate that current expectations for the trip remain the same.

The couple lost their state-funded security when they stepped back from their roles as working royals in 2020, prompting Harry to pursue legal action to have his police protection restored.

Harry has spoken publicly about his desire for reconciliation with his family and his concerns about bringing his wife and children to Britain.

In a statement submitted to the High Court in London, the duke declared: “The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the United States.”

He added: “That cannot happen if there is no possibility to keep them safe when they are on U.K. soil.”

The duke has also stated he cannot put his wife in danger, noting that his own life experiences have made him reluctant to expose himself to unnecessary risk.

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have visited Britain only once since the family relocated to America in 2020, attending Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022.

Meghan last set foot in Britain in 2022, when she and Harry were in England for charity engagements at the time of Queen Elizabeth’s death. They extended their stay for the funeral and related events.

The couple had previously attended Invictus Games countdown events together in both Germany in 2022 and Canada.
