Man, 30, charged after girl, 17, stabbed in the neck on busy residential street in broad daylight

A MAN has been charged after a teenage girl was stabbed in the neck during a broad daylight attack on a residential street.

The victim, aged 17, was rushed to hospital following the incident in Brierfield, Lancashire, on Friday afternoon.

A 30-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder and has now been charged.

Junaid Nawaz was also charged with possession of a knife and will appear before Blackburn Magistrates on Monday morning.

In a statement, the force said: “Our officers were called at 3.06pm on Friday 12th June to Wood Street, Brierfield, and found that a 17-year-old had been stabbed in the back of the neck.

“She was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully her injuries were not life-threatening and she has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

“A 30-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into custody.

“Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Junaid Nawaz, 30, of Livingstone Walk, Brierfield – who is British born of Pakistani heritage – has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

“He has been remanded in custody to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (15th June).”
