Friends of Sarah Ferguson have said she has “nowhere to go – or anyone else to go with”, as negotiations continue about her and Prince Andrew’s future living arrangements. Sarah’s friend added, “The honest truth is that she has nowhere to go and no one to go with [if Andrew loses Royal Lodge]. Her future is hanging in the balance.”

Negotiations about their future residence are now said to be at an “advanced stage”, although some sources have cautioned they are by no means concluded yet, as reported in the Daily Mail. It has also been claimed that Sarah and Andrew have demanded royal officials provide two homes at Windsor, one for each of them, if they are to move out of Royal Lodge in Windsor.

Andrew signed a 75-year lease on Royal Lodge for £1million and paid £7.5million upfront for repairs and refurbishment, which means he largely lives there rent-free, paying only a nominal “peppercorn” annually.

Options of where the couple could move to include Adelaide Cottage, where the Wales family currently reside, or Frogmore Cottage, downsizing to the home previously occupied by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

While both Frogmore Cottage and Adelaide Cottage are managed by the Crown Estate, each would require Andrew and Sarah to pay a commercially reasonable rent.

Prince Andrew has been under increasing pressure over his links with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, and has faced a series of scandals, which led him to relinquish his titles and honours after “discussion with the King”.

He remains a prince, as it is his birthright, but will cease to be the Duke of York, a title received from his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth.

This means Sarah Ferguson will no longer be the Duchess of York but their two children, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugeniewill still hold the title of princess.

The brother of Virginia Giuffre, the woman who alleged that Prince Andrew had sex with her at Ghislaine Maxwell’s house when she was 17, told media that it was a “joyous moment” for survivors of Epstein after the statement was released.

In his released statement issued by Buckingham Palace, he stressed: “I vigorously deny the accusations against me”, referring to Ms Giuffre.

Sarah’s friendship with the late sex offender has also resurfaced as after an email she wrote to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein was made public. In the correspondence, she apologised profusely for disassociating herself from him publicly from Epstein following his child sex conviction in 2008.

As a result, many charity organisations dropped Sarah as patron or ambassador.
