Prince Archie is set to return to the UK later this month, alongside his parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for the Invictus Games in Birmingham. This will mark a huge milestone for the young royal who has rarely been seen on British soil in recent years.

While royal fans eagerly await the visit, it is not the first time Archie has spent time with his royal cousins. In fact, one of his earliest public appearances saw him enjoying a family day out alongside the Prince and Princess of Waleand their three young children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, during a summer polo match.

The memorable outing took place in July 2019, just two months after Archie was born.

At the time, Prince Harry, 41, and Prince William, 44, were competing in the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day at Billingbear Polo Club in Wokingham, Berkshire.

The annual event brought together members of the Royal Family to support a number of charitable causes close to their hearts, including the Invictus Games.

While the princes battled it out on horseback, their growing families gathered on the sidelines to enjoy the sunshine.
Meghan Markle, 44, then a first-time mother, was photographed cradling baby Archie in her arms as she watched Harry compete. Nearby, Princess Catherine was keeping an eye on Prince George, Princess Charlotte and a young Prince Louis, who was still small enough to be carried

The relaxed family gathering offered a rare glimpse into royal life away from formal engagements and palace balconies.

Pictures from the day showed Archie spending time alongside his cousins for what is believed to have been one of the first public occasions they had all been photographed together.

Princess Catherine opted for a red-and-white patterned midi dress by British label L.K.Bennett, while Meghan chose a loose-fitting khaki green dress by Lisa Marie Fernandez.

As the match continued, Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte,11, were seen playing together on the grass while Louis (now 8) toddled nearby, creating a scene that felt remarkably normal despite the royal status of those involved.

Meanwhile, proud father Harry appeared delighted throughout the event.

Following the match, photographs showed the Duke of Sussex repeatedly looking towards Meghan and Archie, clearly enjoying the chance to combine his love of polo with family life. The outing came just days after another major family milestone.

The previous weekend, Harry and Meghan had celebrated Archie’s christening in Windsor with a small gathering of close family and friends, making the polo match one of the first occasions the public had seen the young royal since the ceremony.

At the time, both Harry and William were balancing growing family responsibilities with demanding royal schedules, meaning opportunities for family gatherings were often limited. Looking back now, the photographs have taken on even greater significance.

Just months later, Harry and Meghan would begin a dramatic new chapter that ultimately saw them step down as senior working royals and relocate to California. As a result, opportunities for Archie to spend time with his royal cousins have become increasingly rare.

However, Harry’s connection to polo has remained unchanged. The Duke has continued playing competitively and has frequently spoken about his passion for the sport. That passion also formed the basis of his recent Netflix documentary series, Polo, which offered viewers a behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s oldest and most demanding sports.

Speaking to Hello! magazine about the project, Harry’s close friend and fellow polo player Nacho Figueras explained: “We’ve been working on this for a long time. It was always Harry’s dream and passion to share with the world, what it takes to be a really competitive polo player and show polo at the highest level.”

He added: “I cannot think of many people that can be better than him to be the kickoff of this storytelling.”

With Archie now six years old and a UK return on the horizon, royal watchers will no doubt be reminded of that sunny afternoon in Berkshire when the young prince enjoyed one of his earliest public outings alongside George, Charlotte and Louis
