“We Are Beckoning Your Spirit”: Search Intensifies for Missing Baton Rouge Teen as Severe Weather Threatens Efforts
Authorities and volunteers in Baton Rouge are racing against time in their search for 15-year-old Ja’Derrius Minnieweather, who has now been missing for nearly two weeks.
With heavy rain and potential flooding threatening the region, officials say the weather could complicate ongoing search efforts and make locating the teenager even more urgent.
Ja’Derrius was last seen during the early morning hours of June 5 in Baton Rouge, and despite days of intensive searching, his whereabouts remain unknown.
Officials Plead for Information

During a press conference Wednesday, East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sid Edwards urged anyone with information to come forward.
“We need that information,” Edwards said. “Because I can tell you now, with the law enforcement and the people we have working on this, it’s not if we find out, it’s when we find out.”
Crime Stoppers later clarified that it is offering a time-sensitive $2,000 reward for anyone who provides information within the next 48 hours. In addition, the United Cajun Navy announced it would contribute another $5,000 toward reward efforts.
Family Makes Emotional Appeal

Ja’Derrius’ aunt, Tabitha, thanked volunteers and supporters while making an emotional plea to the public.
“I want to thank everybody for every prayer, for all the boots on the ground, all the efforts, all the tips that are coming in. But there’s someone or more than someone out there that knows more,” she said.
“Please, please call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous. Help us bring Ja’Derrius home.”
District 10 Metro Councilwoman Carolyn Coleman also addressed the missing teen directly during the press conference.
“Wheresoever you are, wherever you are, know that we are beckoning your spirit onto us and home,” she said.
Hundreds of Volunteers Join the Search
The United Cajun Navy has brought more than 100 volunteers to Baton Rouge to assist with search efforts.
Teams have searched wooded areas, highways, bridges, and other locations across the city in cooperation with the Baton Rouge Police Department.
Volunteers say they remain committed to helping authorities until the teenager is found.
Mayor Edwards emphasized that the search will continue.
“I know people have been working hard, but none of us should rest until we figure this out,” he said. “Can you imagine the family? Can you imagine the mother?”
Description of the Missing Teen
Authorities say Ja’Derrius is approximately 5 feet tall, weighs 98 pounds, and has brown eyes.
He was last seen wearing black sweatpants, a gray-and-black shirt, and red Nike slippers.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP (7867). Tips can be provided anonymously.
As severe weather approaches Louisiana, officials say every lead and every minute could make a difference in bringing the missing teenager home safely.
