It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…
King Charles’ former gardener has revealed the best place to put your Christmas tree this festive season, as well as the one place it should never go.
Jack Stooks, who worked for the king at Highgrove House for over two decades, also shared his expert tips on choosing the best tree and keeping it fresh for as long as possible.
King Charles’ gardener’s Christmas tree tips
With Halloween and Bonfire Night now behind us, Christmas is well and truly on the way.
But if you’ve already been seized by the festive spirit and are ready to start decking the halls, we have some bad news.

According to the royal gardener, it’s best to wait as long as possible before buying your real tree.
Instead of the popular December 1, or even earlier (we’re not judging) Jack told Smooth Spins Casino via the Mirror: “Buy and decorate it about a week before Christmas. This way, it will still look beautiful for the big day and through to New Year’s. Aiming for around December 17th or 18th is ideal. It’s late enough to stay fresh but early enough to enjoy it for a while.”
While you wait, why not pass the time working out where to put it?
“Keep it cool and away from radiators or fireplaces.” Jack advised, “Use a stand with water, topping it up regularly. For potted trees, keep the soil slightly moist. Position it near a bright window if possible, as light helps it last longer.”
The gardener also recommended regularly watering your tree and resisting the urge to cut it too early to prevent it from drying out.
How will the royal family spend Christmas?
As per tradition, the royals are expected to make their annual trip to the Sandringham Estate for the holiday period.
On Christmas morning, they will usually attend Mass at St Mary Magdalene’s followed by a festive walkabout.

But before that, it seems they have some other seasonal treats in store.
Preparations are already underway for Kate Middleton’s annual Christmas carol concert. This year, the event is expected to feature a touching tribute to the late Duchess of Kent, who died earlier this year.
Buckingham Palace is also opening a Christmas shop for the first time ever this year. From November 14 January 5, the Royal Mews will be hosting a pop-up store selling festive food, drink, decorations and gifts.
The Royal Collection Trust, which advertised the news on their website, also promised “a full-size advent calendar, with daily reveals of new products, limited editions, exclusive treats and special collector’s items”.
