Kate Middleton’s own children were top of mind as she metsome youngsters during a royal duty.
The Princess of Wales, 44, opened up while visiting the Family Action’s Children’s Trauma Therapy Service in Bradford, her first of three stops during her first solo away day of the year in the North of England.
Princess Kate is patron of Family Action, a national charity that endeavors to help children and families recover from trauma. At the Bradford hub, senior therapist Stuart Murray-Borbjerg spoke about the importance of non-verbal therapeutic approaches through methods including art, music and movement.
“Something that’s lost through traumatic experiences is that sense of playfulness and joy which just comes back when you’re making music or you’re drawing together,” Murray-Borbjerg told Hello! magazine, revealing that Prince George came up during the discussion.
“[It’s] something the Princess said too – that kind of gets lost as adults, but [Prince] George keeps her playful.”
Murray-Borbjerg also added that the conversation turned to her children’s musical hobbies, with him saying, “I think she said one [of her children] plays the guitar and one plays the drums.”

The Princess of Wales embraced play during the engagement when she joined a creative therapy session, and her latest revelation hinted that she might have her own budding band at home. Princess Kate and Prince William share children Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, and both have spoken about their kids’ musical interests.
While visiting a concert practice at Cardiff Castle in Wales before the Platinum Jubilee Celebration Concert celebrating Queen Elizabeth in June 2022, Kate shared that George was taking electric guitar lessons, while Charlotte had been practicing the piano.
Two years later, Prince William revealed that Louis was also pursuing music by playing the drums — perhaps loudly!

“My youngest is learning the drums. That’s why I spend my entire life with my fingers in my ears,” William told Rolling Stones bassist Ronnie Wood and former Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler at the Tusk Awards in London in November 2024.
Princess Charlotte became the first of the Wales children to officially show off her musical skills when she joined Princess Kate for a pre-recorded piano duet that aired in December 2025. The musical moment began the broadcast of Kate’s “Together at Christmas” carol service, which aired on ITV1 and ITVX in the U.K. on Christmas Eve.
In the pre-recorded piece, the mother and daughter duo played “Holm Sound” by Erland Cooper on the piano and shared several smiles, underscoring their close connection.
Kensington Palace said that the piece was one that the Princess of Wales and Princess Charlotte enjoy playing together at home, and Charlotte follows in her mother’s footsteps by playing piano.
Princess Kate’s hidden piano talent was revealed in the broadcast for her inaugural “Together at Christmas” carol service in December 2021, when she accompanied singer Tom Walker on the keys for a moving rendition of “For Those Who Can’t Be Here.”
According to a royal source, the idea for the performance came from Kate herself. She learned piano as a child and found “great comfort” in playing music during the COVID pandemic.
