The identity of the woman who died after going over the balcony of a Carnival Cruise Line ship in California has been revealed.

On Thursday, April 30, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner named the passenger, who died on Monday, April 27, as Briana Miller, 24. The authorities did not provide a cause of death.

Miller was traveling aboard the Carnival Firenze ship near Catalina Island, off the coast of L.A., when she went over the balcony of her stateroom onto a deck below, the cruise line previously shared with PEOPLE.

She was traveling with her family at the time, and they alerted the crew. The cruise line confirmed that the family returned home and that law enforcement was on board while the ship was on Catalina Island to collect information.

“Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one,” the statement added.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told PEOPLE earlier this week that the incident was being handled by the FBI, and the FBI confirmed that it was investigating the death of the passenger. The FBI’s Los Angeles office confirmed to PEOPLE on Friday, May 1 that the investigation continues.

The ship embarked on a five-day Baja Mexico roundtrip from Long Beach on Sunday, April 26, with stops planned on Catalina Island and in Ensenada, a city in the Mexican state of Baja California.

PEOPLE reached out to Carnival Cruise Line for updates but did not immediately hear back.

There have been a number of serious cruise ship incidents in recent weeks. A crew member on a Norwegian Cruise Line ship fell overboard in the waters off Cape Cod on April 25, with authorities later calling off the search.

On April 17, authorities were alerted to a man in his 70s who went missing while on a ship off the coast of Australia. Authorities told PEOPLE a few days later that the search for the passenger, who had reportedly jumped from a balcony, had been called off.
