Virgin River will be back for season eight after a string of cliffhangers in last month’s seventh outing.

Virgin River: Biggest bombshells from season seven

Virgin River is set to undergo some notable changes when it makes its return for season eight.

Netflix released the highly anticipated Virgin River season seven last month, and news about the beloved drama’s future has now emerged.

It has been confirmed that filming for the already greenlit eighth series is now under way, with production on the new episodes getting started in Vancouver on Wednesday, April 22.

Shooting for the 10-episode order is expected to run until August 10, with What’s On Netflix revealing that Jack Sheridan actor Martin Henderson will take on a dual role this time round.

Not only will he be appearing in Virgin River season eight, but he’ll once again step behind the camera to direct an episode, having first demonstrated his directorial flair in season six, episode eight.

Several season seven cast members have been confirmed to return, including Austin Nicholas as Dr Eli, who will be back in a recurring capacity.

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith revealed that Eli would bring a “new energy” to the show, though he won’t be caught up in another love triangle.

Actor Codey Kearsley will also reprise his role as Clay as he continues his search for his sister, while Matty Finochio will return as the mayor’s assistant Tony, “scheduling permitted”.

There are also a number of departures behind the scenes, including Marco Grazzini and Sara Canning, who portray Mike and Veronica respectively.

Meanwhile, Virgin River original Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) storyline reached a natural conclusion in season seven, meaning she won’t feature in the eighth instalment.

Furthermore, Marley and Eamon actors Rachel Drance and Nicholas Coombe are also anticipated not to reprise their roles.

While Virgin River season eight isn’t expected to arrive until sometime in 2027, Smith has already confirmed there will be a four-month time jump.

This allows the show to bypass the immediate medical aftermath of Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack’s adopted daughter being born with a congenital heart defect.

Viewers will also discover how serious Brady’s (Ben Hollingsworth) motorcycle accident was following his reconciliation with Brie (Zibby Allen).

What’s On Netflix teases further: “Elsewhere in town, Denny will be navigating the medical school application process now that his MCAT results are in, and Lizzy is heading back to work.”

On top of this, Brie is set to assist Clay in searching for his sister, potentially introducing a brand new character to the programme.

As yet, however, there has been no indication of who might be cast as his younger sister Layla.
