Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson are leaving the property
Royal Lodge may one day be repurposed for the next generation of senior royals once Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis reach adulthood, a property specialist has told GB News.
The Grade II-listed mansion in Windsor Great Park will fall vacant early next year after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson leave the residence.
Their departure ends nearly two decades at the 30-room estate, one of the most significant homes on the Crown Estate.
With the property soon to be empty, attention is turning to its long-term future and how the King may choose to use it.
Robin Edwards, a property buying agent at Curetons, spoke exclusively to GB News about the options now being considered.
Mr Edwards said: “Now that Royal Lodge will soon be empty, the King and Crown Estates have the difficult decision over what to do with the prestigious property.
“If Prince William and his family hadn’t already just moved into nearby Forest Lodge, which they have very recently finished refurbishing, it would have been ideal for them.
“In a few years time it could even be suitable for Prince George or one of his siblings.”

Forest Lodge, a Georgian mansion also within Windsor Great Park, has recently seen light internal and external renovations according to planning documents submitted earlier this year.
The Waleses are now based there, meaning Royal Lodge will be free for reassignment in the coming months.
Mr Edwards believes the property will almost certainly remain within royal use.
He said: “However, the most likely outcome is that the property will remain within royal use, either reassigned to another senior member of the family or retained as an official guest residence.

“Converting it for commercial purposes, such as a private let or short-term accommodation, is theoretically possible but would be fraught with potential issues.”
A future role for Prince George, Princess Charlotte or Prince Louis would reflect long-established royal practice.
Senior royal heirs have traditionally been allocated Crown Estate residences once they begin taking on official duties.
Prince George, second in line to the throne, is expected to undertake public duties as an adult.
Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis may also carry out roles within the monarchy, depending on the direction of the working Royal Family in the decades ahead.
Royal Lodge, rebuilt in 1811 and later home to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, has long served as a multi-generational family base.
Its extensive grounds, privacy and scale make it one of the most prominent royal properties within Windsor Great Park.
The imminent departure of Andrew and Sarah follows years of speculation surrounding the future of the residence, as well as pressure over finances, maintenance and shifting priorities within the Royal Household.
As the King continues to streamline royal properties and reduce the number of homes in active use, the future of Royal Lodge is expected to reflect longer-term planning for the next generation of the monarchy.
According to Mr Edwards, its next chapter may ultimately be shaped by the lives of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — and the evolving future of the Royal Family under Prince William.
