Jenna Ortega is back on set as her fan favorite Addams Family character in the first Wednesday season 2 behind the scenes video. First premiering on Netflix in 2022, the show explores Wednesday Addams’ arrival at Nevermore Academy, a place filled with mysteries and magic. The first season was a huge hit for the streamer, quickly becoming the most-viewed English-language series on the platform. After a lengthy hiatus, Wednesday season 2 is expected to premiere in 2025.
As part of its Geeked Week celebrations, Netflix has revealed the first look at Wednesday‘s return in a new BTS video. The cast, including Ortega, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Luis Guzmán, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, all welcome viewers to the set, where a bustling production is clearly underway. Tim Burton, who directed several episodes in season 1, is shown multiple times in the video, which promises the new season will be “bigger and more twisted than you can ever imagine.” Check it out below:

Familiar Sets And Characters Are Back, But Plot Details Are A Mystery

Filming on Wednesday season 2 has been ongoing for months now, and it likely still has a ways to go. As the video shows, the series uses a great deal of practical sets and effects, and that takes time to properly construct. It also confirms filming is going smoothly, putting Wednesday on track to return in late 2025, perhaps around the same time season 1 premiered.
Wednesday season 1 premiered in late November 2022.
The returning Wednesday cast members shown in the video are all among those expected to return, with Guzmán and Zeta-Jones once again playing the titular characters’ parents and Sunday and Myers filling in the roles of her classmates, frenemy Bianca and best friend Enid, respectively. Nevermore Academy is also prominently shown, confirming it will once again factor into the season’s plot. However, though many familiar elements are on display, the newer parts of the show are being kept secret.

Wednesday season 2 will feature a slew of exciting new cast members, such as Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, and returning Addams Family franchise star Christopher Lloyd. None of them are glimpsed in the video, likely because their roles are so far top secret. The video also refrains from giving away any plot details, instead focusing on the overall mysterious and spooky atmosphere of the set. This only makes Wednesday season 2 more intriguing.

Netflix Is Already Ramping Up Excitement For What’s To Come

With its blockbuster viewership numbers, Wednesday season 2 cemented itself as a priority for Netflix. However, last year’s Hollywood strikes delayed production. By giving Wednesday a prime spot in its big Geeked Week presentation (second to last, just before the equally-anticipated Squid Game season 2), Netflix appears to be making up for lost time by already ramping up excitement for next year’s premiere. It’s also likely that the budget might’ve grown, as the sets and costumes all look impeccable. If this is what Netflix is revealing a year out from Wednesday‘s premiere, expect more thrilling teases in the coming months.
