Benedict Bridgerton’s love interest for the upcoming fourth season of Bridgerton on Netflix has been revealed.
Yerin Ha has been cast in the upcoming Season 4 of the Netflix series Bridgerton as Sophie Baek, Benedict Bridgerton’s love interest. The Hollywood Reporter stated the actress, known for roles in Halo and Dune: Prophecy, would be joining the cast as this season will focus on the love story of the family’s second-oldest brother.

The Name Change from Beckett to Baek
One notable change is that in the Julia Quinn novels upon which Bridgerton is based, Sophie’s last name is Beckett, but it will be changed to Baek for the television show. Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell and Ha worked together to create a Korean surname for Sophie’s character to honor Ha’s Asian culture. Ha, who is of Korean descent, is from Australia. Brownell asked Ha to think of some Korean last names that started with the letter B and Ha decided on Baek.
“It’s a really nice way for me to feel like the role is fit for me, rather than me having to fit a certain mold,” Ha said. “It’s amazing what it can do just in a psychological sense. So it means a lot that Jess did that for me,” she added.
Ha’s character is at first known to Benedict as the Lady in Silver. Sophie is forced to work the majority of her life for a demanding employer. In the series, she dons a disguise to go to Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) masquerade ball, where she meets Benedict. Ha and Luke Thompson, who plays Benedict Bridgerton, have begun rehearsing the dance scenes for the ball.

Bridgerton has not been without its share of romance since it hit Netflix in 2020. Viewers of the first season became enthralled by the fake relationship-turned-real arc of Daphne and Simon in Season 1. Season 2’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story explored the Queen’s marriage to King George, and those watching Season 3 have witnessed a slow-burn romance between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington.
Throughout its run, Bridgerton has kept things fresh. Its story is often wrought with scandal and romance. The show’s way of venturing out from the often-pretentious and sometimes stuffy period genre shows, sets the show apart. Executive producer Shonda Rimes is credited for making the show as romantic and whimsical as it is while still keeping to modern sensibilities. Seasons 1 through 3 of Bridgerton are currently streaming on Netflix.
