Wednesday premiered in November 2022 and is based on the Addams Family’s eldest child. The spinoff follows Wednesday in her adventures at Nevermore Academy, a place for children gifted with magical abilities, filled with mysteries.

After a long hiatus, Netflix has revealed a short teaser from the highly anticipated Wednesday Season 2. The new season is expected to premiere in 2025, although an official release date is yet to be announced. The less-than-a-minute footage was released as part of its Geeked Week celebrations, which includes behind-the-scenes footage showing Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers, Luis Guzmán, and Catherine Zeta-Jones welcoming the audience to the set, with Guzmán seemingly greeting Wednesday home, telling her, “Hello, my little storm cloud,” as seen below.

The video shows the series in various sets during production. Tim Burton, who directed several episodes of Season 1 and will return to direct episodes in Season 2, appears several times in the video, which shows its focus on practical sets. Despite the events in Season 1’s ending, Nevermore Academy is prominently shown in the one-minute footage, although empty, teasing that it will be a big factor in season 2, as well, alongside the anticipated Addams mansion.

“This season is going to be bigger and more twisted than you can ever imagine.”

As Catherine Zeta-Jones’s Morticia did the iconic finger snaps, many other members from season 1 make an appearance, including Wednesday’s roommate and best friend Enid (Myers) and her frenemy, Bianca (Joy Sunday), as well as setting a bigger stage for the Addams family, with Gomez (Guzmán) and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) appearing in several scenes. “If we showed you any more, your eyes will bleed,” Ortega’s Wednesday promises. “And I’m not that generous.”

Wednesday Season 2 Will Make Exciting Changes

Wednesday was a major success on Netflix, and, even almost two years after its premiere, Season 1 crowns Netflix’s Most Popular TV list (but has been overall defeated by Bridgerton, which is currently Netflix’s most popular title). Wednesday Season 1 featured a murder mystery, but there were several details that the audience and critics weren’t keen on and seemed out of character for Wednesday, like the love triangle between Wednesday and Hynes White’s Xavier and Hunter Doohan’s Tyler Galpin. Luckily, that will all change.

Ortega, who now is a producer on the series, previously expressed her wishes for Season 2 to drop the love triangle, and focus more on horror. Percy Hynes White (who played Xavier Thorpe) and Naomi J. Ogawa (who played Yoko Tanaka) will also not return to the series. However, there will be several newcomers, with members of the Addams Family bumped to the main cast, with Fred Armisen expected to return as Uncle Fester. New additions to the cast include Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, Billie Piper, Frances O’Connor, Christopher Lloyd, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo.

Season 2 has been in production for a while, as filming started in May 2024, and it will not end soon. The show’s creator, Alfred Gough confirmed to Collider that they are about halfway through production [on Season 2,]” which means filming will likely wrap near the end of the year, following the same six-month period as Season 1. If Netflix follows the same pattern, Wednesday Season 2 should premiere sometime near the end of August or the beginning of September 2025, ready to kick off the Halloween season.

Wednesday Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
