Florida Couple Arrested After Allegedly Attacking Mom Who Disciplined Her Toddler in Public

A married couple was arrested after allegedly attacking a Florida mom who was disciplining her toddler son in public.

According to WPLG Local 10, the woman told police that her 4-year-old son was misbehaving and spit in her face when she reprimanded him. She shared that she smacked him once in the mouth and once on the side of the torso before she was approached by a man, later identified as Terry Williams by police.

Terry, 66, claimed that he worked for the Florida Department of Children and Families, telling the mother that she could not yell at or hit her child. The woman explained to police that Terry simply walked away after she told him to leave her alone. She then claimed that Terry’s wife, Mary Williams, 63, approached her more aggressively and tried to talk with the woman about how she disciplined her child.

In the arrest report, obtained by the news outlet, the woman said she told Mary to leave as she tried to get her son settled in the car. However, the 63-year-old persisted, standing between the mother and her son and stopping them from leaving the parking lot.

When the woman tried to move Mary out of the way, things took a turn. The woman alleged that Mary scratched and choked her to the point she felt she was going to pass out before grabbing onto her shirt.

Shortly after, Terry allegedly joined in, grabbing the woman’s shirt and her hair.

The report noted that the married couple ended up ripping the woman’s shirt off, leaving her in her bra. It also stated that Mary went into the mother’s car, turning it off before taking the keys.

Police confirmed that the woman had multiple scratch marks on her throat as well as a cut on her lower lip. A witness on the scene also told officers that she saw Mary and Terry attacking the woman, who didn’t appear to be fighting back.

“They were on both sides and they were just grabbing her and they were ripping the scrub shirt off of her,” the woman who witnessed the incident told the outlet, claiming that it looked like they were trying to bring the mother to the ground. “She was struggling and that’s why her scrub shirt was being torn off of her.”

Mary was arrested on charges of simple battery and burglary, while her husband Terry was arrested on a battery charge.

While Terry went home after paying his $2,500 bond, his wife is being held at the Broward County Main Jail on a $5,000 bond as of Thursday, May 7.

Samiar Nefzi, a reporter for the outlet, spoke with Terry as he left the jail, asking what happened.

“Nothing,” he replied. Nefzi went on to describe what the witness saw, to which Terry simply responded, “Wow, really? Interesting.”
