Outlander star Sam Heughan announced Tuesday that he’s fulfilled his final duties playing James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser. You might’ve thought that happened when the Starz series announced that filming had wrapped. Or when some of the cast had to go back later for reshoots. But nope: As Heughan says in the video below, he’s now performed “the last ADR” — or re-recording of dialogue that might not have been captured cleanly during filming — “on Outlander completed, on the Universal lot.”

Heughan called the experience “very emotional” and added that he was excited to find out what the show’s passionate fans think of the series’ finale.

“It’s going to be quite, quite an emotional one,” he said, chuckling. “I know you’re going to love it.”

Heughan wrapped his post with a brief moment of gratitude for his character, saying, “Thank you, Jamie.”

Season 7 of the time-travel drama ended with a huge question mark: Had the daughter Claire thought was stillborn decades before somehow survived? “Obviously it’s a cliffhanger,” he said. “But hopefully we tie it up in a bow with the answers and the explanations and what happens and the ramifications of all that on Jamie and Claire.”
