Ozzy Osbourne’s beloved hometown of Birmingham came to a standstill Wednesday morning as fans gathered to say a final goodbye to the godfather of heavy metal.

The emotional funeral procession made its way through the city’s downtown streets—where the roots of Black Sabbath and heavy metal were first planted decades ago. Crowds lined the route, cheering Ozzy’s name, tossing roses toward the cortege, and honoring a man who redefined rock history.

A Celebration, Not a Mope-Fest

True to Ozzy’s wishes, the farewell struck a celebratory tone. A marching band performed spirited renditions of “Iron Man” and “Crazy Train,” bringing a defiant joy to an otherwise tearful day.

Fans surrounded Birmingham’s iconic Black Sabbath bench, now overflowing with flowers, candles, notes, and mementos. It was more than a tribute—it was a shrine of gratitude.

The Family’s Heartfelt Moment

As the procession reached the bench and nearby Black Sabbath Bridge, Ozzy’s wife Sharon Osbourne, joined by children Jack and Kelly, stepped out of their cars to take in the overwhelming tribute. Clearly moved, Sharon leaned on her children as they added their own flowers to the growing memorial.

The family’s grief was shared by everyone present, many of whom had grown up with Ozzy’s music as the soundtrack to their lives. The crowd broke into chants of “We love you, Sharon!” as the family returned to the cars for the final leg of the journey—presumably en route to a private funeral service at an undisclosed location.

Ozzy’s death on July 22 came just 17 days after his powerful appearance at the Back to the Beginning farewell concert, where some of metal’s biggest stars honored him with live tributes and covers. His passing followed a long battle with Parkinson’s, spinal issues, and other health challenges.
