A Pennsylvania community is in shock after two parents were charged with homicide following the d3ath of their one-day-old baby boy inside a hospital maternity ward — a case prosecutors are already describing as one of the most horrifying they have ever encountered.

Kevin Canaan, 28, and Yeniffer Tavarez-Cepeda, 25, are accused of fatally injuring their newborn son while alone with him inside a private recovery room at Tower Health Reading Hospital in West Reading, Pennsylvania.

According to investigators, the infant was born healthy on May 2 before suddenly being discovered in severe medical distress only hours later. Hospital staff reportedly noticed the newborn had become pale, limp, and was struggling to breathe.

Medical personnel quickly transferred the baby to the neonatal intensive care unit before he was airlifted to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for emergency treatment. Tragically, the child d!ed the following day.

Doctors at Penn State Hershey reportedly informed investigators that the infant’s injuries were “consistent with physical abuse” and not related to complications from childbirth.

An autopsy later revealed the newborn suffered what officials described as “multiple traumatic injuries,” with forensic pathologists ruling the d3ath a homicide.
