The royal family’s property portfolio continues to grow.

King Charles has snapped up a sprawling property next door to his wife Queen Camilla’s vacation home over safety concerns.

The King forked out £3 million ($A6.1 million) on the Old Mill estate in Wiltshire, England, the Daily Mail reports.

Located along the river Avon, the four-bedroom home was set to become a wedding venue.

The monarch is said to have purchased the building so that Camilla’s nearby home will not be swarmed by visitors

One of Camilla’s longtime friends told the outlet that it was “imperative” for Charles to step in and ensure his wife’s privacy is being prioritised, given that the vacant building very nearly became a “short-term holiday rental and wedding venue.”

According to the New York Post, Charles purchased the property through private funds.

The building currently overlooks the home Camilla purchased 30 years ago following her divorce from Andrew Parker-Bowles.

The Sun reports Camilla paid £850,000 for the countryside bolthole, which has many luxury features, including an outdoor swimming pool, terrace, stables and incredible gardens.

It was her main home from 1996 to 2003, and it is situated just 15 minutes from one of Charles’ favourite homes, Highgrove.

“The new arrangement is a pragmatic solution, being both a sound financial investment and a way of maintaining Her Majesty’s privacy, protection and continued enjoyment of her much-loved home, without any public funds being used,” a royal source told the Mail.

Camilla is “grateful and relieved” that her husband intervened, the source adds.

While Camilla has rarely returned to her Wiltshire home since becoming queen, she previously used the property as her quiet oasis when retreating from the spotlight.

In fact, she spent many months at the house following the news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022.

“She has her horses, she walks her dogs and she loves spending time with her family,” a friend of hers told the outlet.
