🔥 “Man Utd didn’t have it like Liverpool” — Sadio Mané Finally Reveals the Real Reason He Rejected Manchester United 🔥

Sadio Mané has dropped a stunning revelation about one of the biggest decisions of his career — turning down Manchester United (and another elite European giant) to sign for Liverpool.

In a rare, brutally honest moment, Mané explained that the entire landscape of English football was shifting — and that Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure had changed the aura, identity, and pulling power of Manchester United in ways few truly understood at the time.

Liverpool, meanwhile, had something United didn’t.
A vision. A plan. A spark he “felt instantly.”

💥 “Man Utd didn’t have it like Liverpool,” he admitted — a line that has left fans stunned for its candid boldness.

His confession not only rewrites the story of his 2016 transfer… it also reveals how one of the Premier League’s most electrifying forwards trusted his instincts over the badge — choosing Klopp’s rising project over United’s fading certainty.

Sadio Mane explains why he chose Liverpool over Man United & 1 other club

As the tide turned in Liverpool’s favour following Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure from Man United, Sadio Mane was one of the key figures who chose Merseyside over Manchester.

The 2013/14 season saw the north west power shift down the M62 to Merseyside as Brendan Rodgers’ Reds pushed for the title while David Moyes failed in his job taking over the reigning champions.

It wasn’t until Jurgen Klopp arrived in late 2015, though, that Liverpool began to truly topple their rivals.

Among the German’s most pivotal signings was Mane, who arrived at Anfield for £34 million from Southampton in the summer of 2016.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, the Senegalese winger recalled how Man United also wanted him.

“At that time, Manchester United called me at the same time,” Mane recounted.

“I was talking to Van Gaal. Rooney was there, Di Maria was there, Depay was there. When they failed to buy me, they bought Martial.

“Van Gaal called me. He said, ‘Mane, how are you? I want you to come to Manchester United’.

“I say, ‘Really?’

“He said, ‘Yeah. OK, now I’m talking to my agent.

“‘We’ll see what is the best because I know you are a good player and you can help the team, and we can help you also to become a better player.’

“And then I say, ‘OK. My question: you have Depay, you have Rooney, you have Van Persie I think, so where am I going to play?’

“That was my question because me, I want to play.

“He said, ‘I know you’re talented, you’re good but if you do good training, good impression, you will play, but we have another player good’.

“So I was not convinced about his [explanation]. A few days after, Klopp called me.”

Interestingly, Klopp himself gave a similar reason for turning down Man United after Ferguson’s exit, recently explaining how the project ‘was not about football’ and to just ‘bring the best players together then let’s go’.

Sadio Mane also turned down Tottenham in favour of Liverpool

It was the boss’ personal touch that led to Mane joining Liverpool, with the now 33-year-old explaining that the manager’s apology over a previous failed transfer from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund played a part in choosing the Reds.

“At the time Liverpool was even not in the Champions League,” Mane said.

“When Klopp called me, he said, ‘How are you? It was my fault you didn’t come to Dortmund because he knew I wanted to come’.

“I met him first. I was not happy and he apologised first.

“And he said, ‘We will build a team no one will want to play against and then if we grow up together, then you play every game’.

“So when he said this, I went to this kind of project that I wanted because he said we’ll make a strong team and I will play every game.”

Mane also explained how he turned down Tottenham to come to Liverpool, having already informed Mauricio Pochettino he would move to north London.

“Three days after, Klopp called me,” Mane continued.

“I say, ‘This is my club! This is the right [decision] and this is what I want to do!’

“And I say, ‘I give you my word. Some clubs wanted me but no, I’m coming there’.”
