Liverpool proactively terminates contract with Diogo Jota, does something special
Liverpool FC proactively fired Diogo Jota after the tragic accident that occurred on July 3 to activate the contract compensation clause for this player.
The sudden departure of Diogo Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva shocked the entire football world. This was not only a big shock to fans, but also a great loss in the hearts of teammates, coaches and those who worked with these two players.
Across social media, a series of clubs, players and football organizations have sent condolences, tributes and gratitude to Jota and Andre – two talents who devoted themselves to the king sport but passed away at the prime of their careers.
Liverpool FC, Jota’s home team, also had a heroic act that made the entire football world admire. Immediately after receiving the sad news, the Merseyside team held a solemn memorial ceremony at Anfield, where players, coaching staff and fans together observed a minute of silence for Jota and his brother.
Not stopping there, Liverpool also decided to establish a support fund called “Jota & Andre Foundation” to help young talents in difficult circumstances – a noble gesture showing gratitude and honoring the legacy that Jota left behind.
Liverpool also proactively terminated the contract with Diogo Jota, thereby activating a special compensation clause in the contract. The 28-year-old has three years left on his contract with the Premier League champions (until June 2027). With a salary of £140,000/week, equivalent to £7.2 million/year, Jota’s family will receive a total of £21.84 million.
Accordingly, the entire amount will be transferred to his wife and three children in regular installments, ensuring long-term financial security for his family after the great loss.
This humane action not only shows Liverpool’s respect for Jota, but also sends a strong message about humanity in football, the contributions and sacrifices of players are always remembered and rewarded.

In August 2022, Liverpool officially extended the contract with Diogo Jota. This was a way for the Anfield team to show their absolute trust in his efforts and persistent contributions since joining the team.
However, the unfortunate thing happened when Jota could not complete that unfinished journey with Liverpool. At the age of 28 – the most mature age of his career, he left forever, leaving behind unfinished dreams and making all the fans choke with regret.
