Queen Elizabeth II opened up about bond between Princess Charlotte and Prince George
During a church service at Sandringham in January 2018, the late queen met Ellen Clay, who had just watched her 10-year-old daughter receive a Bible from the monarch.
As they chatted, the queen asked if Ellen’s daughter looked after her younger sibling.
When Ellen replied that it was “more the other way around,” the queen was said to have smiled and responded: “It’s like that with Charlotte and George.”
Ellen later recalled the encounter in an interview with HELLO!. She claimed: “She asked if Emily looked after Hadleigh”.
“I said it was more the other way round. She said it was like that with Princess Charlotte and Prince George.”
Ellen’s husband, Tom, added: “The queen was implying that Charlotte keeps an eye out for George rather than the other way around. It’s often the case that a younger child is more confident. It is second child syndrome.”
The queen’s remark echoed what Princess Kate had shared the year before during a royal engagement in London.
Speaking to military families, Kate said: “Charlotte is growing up really fast. She is the one in charge.”
At the time, Charlotte was just two years old.

Princess Charlotte
Now ten, Princess Charlotte is often seen confidently supporting her brothers in public, whether it’s helping George remember royal etiquette or guiding little Louis at official events.
During Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in 2022, Charlotte was spotted gently reminding George to bow. And at King Charles III’s coronation, she arrived hand-in-hand with Louis, clearly helping to keep him calm and steady.
Their close sibling bond was also on full display in a home video for Prince George’s 12th birthday, where Charlotte and George are seen laughing and holding hands with Louis while walking through the woods.
Prince William has also opened up about their dynamic at home.
Appearing on The Reluctant Traveller with Eugene Levy, he shared: “We sit and chat, it’s really important. None of our children have any phones, which we’re very strict about.”
He added that Charlotte enjoys netball and ballet, and often jumps on the trampoline with Louis, “beating each other up, most of the time”.

Kate Middleton’s tribute to Charlotte
Meanwhile, Kate Middleton stepped out in a tailored grey Roland Mouret suit for the Shaping Us: Future Workforce summit at London’s Salesforce Tower on Tuesday, November 18.
Paired with a ruffled cream blouse and her Smythson tote, the look balanced elegance and professionalism. But it was her jewellery that told a deeper story.
The Princess of Wales wore her diamond ‘Empress’ earrings by Mappin & Webb, a pair she first wore in 2015 to Princess Charlotte’s christening. Valued at £3,750, the earrings feature 18-carat white gold and round-cut diamonds.
Jewellery designer Trang Do told HELLO! the choice was a “thoughtful, symbolic gesture,” linking Kate’s early years work to her personal role as a mother.
