Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Release Date Moved Up Again as Federal Prison Term Shortens
5
Sean “Diddy” Combs is now expected to be released from federal prison sooner than originally anticipated, according to updated records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The 56-year-old music mogul, who is serving time at a low-security federal prison in New Jersey, has seen his projected release date moved forward once again. Federal records now indicate that Combs is expected to leave custody on February 23, 2028, shaving additional months off his original sentence timeline.
The latest adjustment marks the second time officials have shortened his projected release date since he was sentenced in 2025.
Release Date Continues to Move Forward
Combs was sentenced in October 2025 to 50 months in federal prison after being convicted on charges related to transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution-related activities connected to so-called “freak-offs.”
At the time of sentencing, federal authorities projected that Combs would remain incarcerated until June 2028.
Earlier this year, that date was moved forward to April 2028. The latest update advances his release even further, setting February 23, 2028, as his current expected release date.
Neither federal officials nor Combs’ representatives immediately provided detailed explanations for the latest adjustment. However, sentence reductions can occur through good-conduct credits, participation in approved rehabilitation programs, and other federal prison policies.
Rehabilitation Program Reportedly Playing a Role
4
Reports indicate that Combs has been participating in a substance-abuse rehabilitation program while serving his sentence at FCI Fort Dix.
Sources familiar with the matter previously stated that his legal team preferred the New Jersey facility because of its treatment opportunities and its relative proximity to family members.
Participation in certain rehabilitation initiatives can contribute toward sentence credits under federal guidelines, though prison officials have not publicly confirmed whether such programs influenced Combs’ revised release date.
Legal Troubles Continue Beyond Prison Sentence
While Combs’ prison release appears to be approaching sooner than expected, his legal challenges may not be over.
Earlier this month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that authorities are reviewing two separate sexual assault allegations involving the former Bad Boy Records founder.
One of the cases involves claims made by a Florida-based music producer, who alleged that Combs sexually assaulted him during incidents in 2020 and 2021.
The allegations were first publicly reported in 2025 and remain under review.
Combs has consistently denied wrongdoing.
His attorneys previously issued statements rejecting the accusations, describing them as false and defamatory while stating that the music executive intends to defend himself through the legal system.
A Fall From the Top of the Music Industry
5
For decades, Combs was one of the most influential figures in the entertainment industry.
As founder of Bad Boy Records, he helped launch and develop the careers of numerous artists while building a business empire that extended into fashion, television, alcohol brands, and media ventures.
However, a wave of civil lawsuits and criminal investigations dramatically altered public perceptions of the once-celebrated entrepreneur.
Several high-profile accusers, including singer Casandra Ventura and producer Rodney Jones, filed complaints alleging sexual misconduct and other abuses.
Although jurors convicted Combs on prostitution-related charges, they acquitted him of more serious racketeering and sex-trafficking allegations during his 2025 federal trial.
With his prison release date now less than two years away, attention is likely to remain focused on both his incarceration and the ongoing legal matters that continue to surround the once-powerful music executive.
