Prince Harry discusses Meghan’s ‘twerking’ before Lilibet’s birth as video sparks backlash
The Duke of Sussex spoke about the moment the couple danced around the hospital room before the arrival of their daughter.

Meghan Markle surprised the world yesterday on her daughter Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday by posting a never-before-seen video. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, took to Instagram with a video of herself and her husband Prince Harry dancing to The Baby Momma Dance by Starrkeisha hours before Lilibet’s birth in 2021.
While the video, which showed the couple “twerking”, left many royal fans around the world speechless, the actual event shown in the video did not come as a surprise for some. This is because Harry, 40, had previously mentioned the moment in his memoir Spare, published in 2023.

Recalling the moment in words, Harry revealed that there was nothing but “love and joy”, and that the couple did not have some of the same stresses on the day Princess Lilibet was born as they did when giving birth to Prince Archie in 2019, at a time when they were still working royals.

Speaking about his daughter’s birth in Spare, Harry said: “Nothing but joy and love in that room.
“We ate and ate and then did the Baby Mama dance around the hospital room.”
While at the time of the memoir’s publication could royal fans only picture the moment, they can now see it first-hand on Meghan Markle’s Instagram account.

She wrote alongside the video on Wednesday: “Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work – there was only one thing left to do!”
While many across the globe have expressed negative opinions on the video, including royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams who dubbed the moment “unroyal”, a number of fans believe that the moment is beautiful and shows the bond Harry and Meghan have.
One fan wrote on X: “They seem like such down to earth, fun people who genuinely enjoy being with each other, who match each others energy perfectly and who are madly in love and absolutely adore each other.”
A second said: “Meghan Markle dancing with Prince Harry while in labour is the kind of soft, joy-filled love story we don’t see enough. Strength, ease, and partnership in motion.”
