The late Queen reportedly didn’t hold back when it came to Harry and Meghan
The late Queen Elizabeth II reportedly made scathing remarks about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shortly before her death, describing the couple as a “complete catastrophe”, according to a royal insider.
The comments were said to have been made in August 2022 during a private drinks reception at Balmoral, just weeks before the monarch passed away at age 96.

Queen Elizabeth’s ‘comments’ about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle
According to a source who spoke to The Spectator, the Queen, widely known for her measured tone and forgiving nature, was unusually blunt.
The source claimed: “At the drinks before the dinner, a small group were talking to the monarch. She explained that Harry meeting Meghan had become a complete catastrophe.
“…By this point, we all knew the Queen’s health was in decline and she had months left. She seemed regretful about how things had panned out.”
“But she saw straight through her,” the insider claimed.
“It was a startling sentence to hear from the most forgiving woman on Earth.”
These alleged comments came amid the deepening rift between the Sussexes and the royal family.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry and Meghan have made serious allegations, from claims of racism surrounding their son Archie’s skin tone to accusations that Meghan was left unsupported during her mental health struggles.

Meghan ‘loved’ spending time with Queen Elizabeth
But despite the tensions, Prince Harry and Meghan have consistently spoken warmly of the Queen.
During their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan said: “I’ve loved being in her company. She’s always been warm, welcoming, and inviting.”
Following the Queen’s death, Meghan told Variety: “What’s so beautiful is to look at the legacy that [Harry’s] grandmother was able to leave on so many fronts. Certainly, in terms of female leadership, she is the most shining example of what that looks like.
“I feel deep gratitude to have been able to spend time with her and get to know her. I feel fortunate. And I continue to be proud to have had a nice warmth with the matriarch of the family.”
Harry and Meghan were in the UK for other engagements when the Queen passed. Harry rushed to Balmoral to join his family, and the couple remained for the funeral.
Notably, they reunited briefly with Prince William and Princess Kate at Windsor to view floral tributes. This was their first public appearance as a foursome since the Oprah interview fallout.
While the Queen’s reported comments may shock many, they offer a glimpse into the extent of the reported tension in her final months.
