Kate Middleton’s five-word comment to King Charles shows true feelings over father-in-law

The Royal Family has its fair share of affectionate nicknames, and one in particular, used by Kate Middleton to address King Charles, will undoubtedly resonate with parents of young children worldwide.
In June 2021, when the G7 summit took place in Cornwall, three generations of the Windsor family came together to support then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson in welcoming a host of world leaders.
The 95 year old Queen Elizabeth was in high spirits, leaving the likes of Joe and Jill Biden, the then-US President and First Lady, in awe of her witty remarks. During a photocall with a group of beaming politicians at the Eden Project, she quipped: “Are you supposed to be looking as if you’re enjoying yourselves?”.

Johnson, who had his fair share of controversy during his time in office, including attending rule-breaking parties during the Covid lockdowns, replied: “We have been enjoying ourselves in spite of appearances.”, reports the Scottish Daily Express.
This three-day summit, held at the world’s largest indoor rainforest, marked the Queen’s first public appearance after the funeral of her beloved husband of 73 years.
Also in attendance were King Charles and Queen Camilla, then known as Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, alongside Prince William and Kate Middleton, then referred to as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Another touching exchange was caught on camera by a lip reader between Kate and her father-in-law, Charles, who is grandfather to her three kids, George, Charlotte, and Louis.
Kate affectionately greeted Charles with: “Hello Grandpa, how are you?”. It’s worth noting that this encounter took place just a few days after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their daughter, Princess Lilibet, in California. Therefore, Kate might have been alluding to the newest addition to the family – the King’s fifth grandchild.
Regrettably, due to the well-documented tensions between the Sussexes and the rest of the Royal family, as well as Harry and Meghan’s concerns over security, Charles has yet to meet Lilibet in person.
The lip reader also deciphered other conversations between the royals as they strolled through part of the project. At one point, Camilla considerately offered the Queen her scarf, saying: “Here is your shawl.”
The Queen declined, responding: “You have it.” Camilla double-checked: “Are you sure?”. Charles then chimed in, confirming: “She doesn’t want it.”
Earlier that day, the Queen had borrowed a ceremonial sword from Edward Bolitho, the Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall, to cut a cake at a Big Lunch initiative. This event aimed to bring people together to share meals with their communities.
When an aide mentioned a conventional knife was available, the Queen quipped: “I know there is, this is more unusual”. The Duchess of Cornwall observed: “That’s slicing through” before lending a hand in the final stages of cake cutting.
After returning the ceremonial sword, the Queen used a knife to cut another slice of cake and commented: “That looks very good”.
