Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s wedding is also a big day for their three daughters.

Peter, 48, and Harriet, a National Health Service nurse, 45, walked down the aisle on Saturday, June 6, at All Saints Church in Kemble, a village in Gloucestershire, England.

The wedding made Peter the first of Queen Elizabeth’s eight grandchildren to remarry. (His cousins Prince William, Prince Harry, Zara Tindall, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are currently married, while the two youngest of the late monarch’s grandchildren — Lady Louise, 22, and James, Earl of Wessex, 18 — have yet to wed.)

In addition to being the second marriage for both the bride and groom, both are already parents. Peter shares two daughters — Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14 — from his previous marriage to Autumn Kelly, while Harriet is a mom to 13-year-old Georginia from her relationship with fitness instructor Antonio St. John Sperling.

The trio of new step-sisters served as bridesmaids on their parents’ big day, dressed in matching white short-sleeved dresses and flower crowns as they held up Harriet’s train on the drizzly spring day.

Other royal attendees at the wedding included King Charles and Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton, Prince Edward and Sophie, as well as Peter’s mother, Princess Anne and her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, and Peter’s sister, Zara Tindall, and her husband, Mike Tindall.

Savannah, Isla and Georgina have already made their first public outing together. The trio was seen walking together outside the Easter church service with the royal family in April, all coordinating in navy ensembles.

Peter and Harriet won’t be the first remarriage among the British royal family. However, King Charles and Queen Camilla’s children from their first marriages were grown when the couple tied the knot in 2005, while Princess Anne remarried Sir Tim Laurence, who didn’t have children of his own.

Peter and Zara gained a half-sister after their father, Mark Phillips, remarried to Sandy Pflueger and welcomed a daughter, Stephanie, in 1997. Stephanie served as a bridesmaid in Peter’s first wedding in 2008, as well as at Zara’s 2011 wedding to Mike Tindall. The siblings were also in attendance for Stephanie’s 2022 nuptials to William Hosier, with Peter and Zara’s daughters acting as young bridesmaids at the ceremony. (Peter and Zara also have another half-sister through an extramarital affair Mark had during his marriage to Princess Anne, but it’s unclear if they’ve ever met.)

While Peter will be the first member of his generation of the British royal family to remarry, he won’t be the first to step into the role of stepparent. Princess Beatrice became a stepmother upon her 2020 wedding to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who had a son — Christopher Woolf, known as “Wolfie,” now 10 — from a previous relationship. Beatrice and Edo also went on to welcome two daughters, Sienna and Athena.

Princess Beatrice told The London Standard in 2021 that she considers it a “great honor” to be Wolfie’s stepmom. A source close to the couple also told PEOPLE in 2020 that Beatrice “is a wonderful and very hands-on stepmom” and embraced Wolfie “as part of her life from the outset.”

Beatrice and Edo maintain a co-parenting relationship with Wolfie’s mother, Dara Huang, who told Harper’s Bazaar U.K. in 2024 that her son has “two sets of parents trying to help him on both sides.”

“I just think, ‘The more, the merrier,’” Dara added. “I feel lucky to have such positive people around him, who really embrace him — because it didn’t have to be so easy.”

“It’s all about your point of view,” she continued. “I don’t understand people who are divorced and then hold their children as collateral; that doesn’t make any sense. It’s about creating a happy home and lifestyle.”
