French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte have arrived in the UK for a three-day state visit. Due to refurbishment works at Buckingham Palace, King Charles and Queen Camilla will host the couple at Windsor Castle rather than Buckingham Palace.
Princess Kate, who recently opened up about her “rollercoaster” cancer recovery and its life-changing impact, will carry out royal duties during today’s fine display of pomp and pageantry. This morning, the Macrons were met by the Prince and Princess of Wales at RAF Northolt and travelled with them to Windsor for a full ceremonial welcome. Other highlights of the state visit include viewing the elegant Charabanc carriage from the Royal Mews and Febuleu de Maucour, a 10-year-old grey gelding which Mr Macron gifted the late Queen in 2022 to mark her Platinum Jubilee.
One of the main talking points of Mr Macron’s trip will be the glittering state banquet this evening, which will see members of the Royal Family don glittering gowns and tiaras. Kensington Palace has yet to confirm whether Kate will attend the evening engagement, having last attended a grand royal dinner 20 months ago in November 2023 in honour of the South Korean president.
