“Emily in Paris” took a “Roman Holiday” on Tuesday when its full cast came to the Eternal City to launch part-two of the Netflix show’s fourth season.
Lily Collins, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Camille Razat, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery and William Abadie were photographed sipping spritzes on a terrace in front of the Colosseum prior to the global premiere at Rome’s The Space Cinema Moderno.
The Netflix publicity machine also unleashed a fleet of dozens of vintage FIAT 500 cars with “Emily in Paris” logos that zipped around central Rome, even though the show’s protagonists ride Vespas.
In season four part-two (episodes 6-10), which drops on Netflix on Sept. 12, “Emily and Gabriel’s chemistry is undeniable as they work together towards a Michelin star, but two big secrets threaten to undo everything they’ve dreamed of. As old patterns clash with new complications, Emily feels drawn to a potential new love interest…and a new city,” according to the provided synopsis.
The “Emily in Paris” goes to Rome episodes feature Italian actor Eugenio Franceschini playing Emily’s new love interest who is named Marcello Muratori. Originally from Rome, Marcello is “direct, confident, and values simplicity. He substantive but never flashy — true to the roots of his family’ company,” as Netflix materials put it.
Luc Besson’s daughter Thalia Besson plays Geneviève, who is Laurent’s twenty-something daughter from a past relationship. She has just moved from New York City to Paris to start her career. “Her bright, eager demeanor immediately endears her to Emily, who’s thrilled to have an American expat to mentor. But their similarities may end up complicating Emily’s life — both professionally and personally,” the synopsis says.
Italian actor Anna Galiena plays Antonia Muratori, Marcello’s mother and the matriarch of the Muratori family; Raoul Bova is Giancarlo: A charming, self-assured, successful Roman commercial director who used to be Sylvie’s film professor; and Rupert Everett plays Giorgio Barbieri, the owner of a global interior design firm based in Rome. Giorgio, who has been friends with Sylvie for decades, “makes it his business to know everyone else’s business, and to be the life of every party.” It will be fun to see how Everett fares as an Italian.
Interestingly, the show’s new episodes will provide an opportunity for Philippine Leroy Beaulieu, who plays Sylvie, to show off her perfect Italian that she learned when she moved to Rome from Paris to study acting at age 16.
