David Muir’s World News Tonight was forced to interrupt its regular broadcast on Saturday, December 13, as news broke out regarding a harrowing situation in Providence, Rhode Island, which left many viewers sharing their sadness.
The episode saw Andrew Dymburt fill in for Muir, and as the episode kicked off, he was forced to share news about a tragic shooting at the campus of Ivy League school Brown University.
It was the latest disturbing news to be reported on the show, which also had an update a day prior on a story that many fans said they didn’t feel bad about.
This time, however, a different tone was struck by viewers as they tuned in for updates on the ongoing story.
“A massive manhunt is underway at this for an active shooter,” Dymburt informed viewers. “Authorities describe the suspect as a man dressed all in black.”
“According to the latest update from officials, two people have died and eight others have been wounded, all of them now in critical, but stable condition,” he continued.

He then detailed that at the time, a massive police presence was on the campus, as authorities attempted to locate the shooter and continued urging others to stay sheltered in place.
According to the report, the shooting was reported around 4:00 p.m. at the school’s engineering building, as a final exam was underway.
The report also featured a clip of President Donald Trump as he addressed the shooting to reporters.

“It’s terrible and all we can do right now is pray for the victims, for those who were very badly hurt, it looks like,” he said. “…it’s a shame. Just pray, thank you very much.”
Following the breaking news report, many quickly took to the show’s social media as they shared the update, sharing their sadness over the matter.
“So sad to see,” one person wrote. “Condolences to all families.”
“Omg just so heart breaking another shooting now too precious kids won’t be going home for the holidays lives forever changed who endured this tragedy families changed prayers for all injured the victims and families,” another said.

Others criticized the president’s response to the news.
“All we can do is pray? Nah,” one wrote. “‘Just pray.’ Sit with that for a moment,” another added.
Since the shooting was first reported, authorities have reported that a person of interest was detained at a hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island, approximately 15 miles from the campus.
No other details have been released, nor have the identities of the suspect or the victims.
