The White House and Karoline Leavitt have been accused of targeting Selena Gomez after sharing a video of mothers who have lost children to illegal immigrants criticising the pop star
Karoline Leavitt gave the go-ahead for the White House to a post a response to Selena Gomez over immigration
The official White House X account has caused internet chaos by posting a video that blasted Selena Gomez, calling it a potential act of political propaganda.
The pop sensation had already faced harsh backlash for releasing an emotional video addressing the deportation of Mexican immigrants, which outrageously prompted some to suggest her deportation.
The White House’s video featured testimonials from mothers of purported victims of undocumented immigrant violence criticizing Selena and lauding President Trump, which sparked widespread condemnation for its “grossly inappropriate” misuse of an official government channel to bully a citizen and jeopardize Gomez’s safety.
The White House social media, headed by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, dropped a bombshell video titled “Moms of Victims of Illegal Aliens SLAM Selena Gomez: You Didn’t Cry for Our Daughters,” where bereaved mothers scolded Gomez.
Earlier, Gomez had shared a heart-wrenching clip expressing her sorrow and sense of powerlessness in the face of her people being targeted, including children. She vowed to do everything in her power to help, even if unsure what that was. “I just wanted to say that I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything. I promise,” she said to the camera.
One heartbroken mom asked: “What about our children who were brutally murdered and raped and beaten to death and left on the floor by these illegal immigrants?” Another doubted the authenticity of Gomez’s emotions, saying, “Seeing that video, it’s hard to believe that it’s actually genuine and real because she’s an actress.”
These mothers have backed President Donald Trump, and the decision to share the video via the official White House X account has sent shockwaves across social media.
One social media user voiced their indignation, commenting, “Absolutely disgusting, unprofessional, and frankly, putting Selena in danger,” and confessed, “This makes me ashamed to be an American, where I’ve been told my whole life that I have the freedom of speech.”
Concerns escalated as viewers interpreted the post as a worrying slide into governments using platforms for attacking private individuals over policy disagreements, likening it to propaganda. Alarm bells rang about the risk to Selena Gomez herself when she was directly tagged and mentioned in the video, fearing it might lead to her being targeted.
