During the interview, the Prince of Wales briefly mentioned his younger brother Harry. The brothers have reportedly had a strained relationship for some years now. It’s believed they aren’t on speaking terms.

Speaking to Schitt’s Creek star Eugene, Prince William acknowledged his and Harry’s upbringing. He revealed his hope for his own children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.

When asked about how he feels about his eldest child, George, becoming king one day, William said: “Obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do, a world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better.

“That is caveated with, I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past, that Harry and I had to grow up in. I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation.”

‘Change for good’

William also opened up about wanting to bring “change” to the monarchy when he takes over his father’s position.

He said: “Change is on my agenda. Change for good. And I embrace that and I enjoy that change — I don’t fear it. That’s the bit that excites me, is the idea of being able to bring some change.

“Not overly radical change, but changes that I think that need to happen.”

I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past, that Harry and I had to grow up with.

Prince William’s relationship with his brother has been strained for some time now. Harry’s tell-all interviews and claims in his memoir, Spare, have reportedly damaged relations further.

In his book, Harry alleged that William physically attacked him during a disagreement in the UK in 2019 over his wife Meghan Markle.

Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties in 2020 with Meghan. They now live in California with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

In September, Harry reunited with their father, King Charles, for the first time in 19 months.

The pair enjoyed a “private tea” at the king’s London residence, Clarence House. However, despite being in the UK, Harry didn’t see his brother.

A spokesperson for Harry recently shut down any suggestion that he’s “trying to drive a wedge between the Prince of Wales and the king”.

Could Harry’s reunion with Charles pave the way for a meeting with William? Only time will tell.
