Princess Diana died 28 years ago today and her brother Charles Spencer has shared a moving tribute to his late sister on the anniversary of her death in a car crash in Paris

Princess Diana’s brother has shared a heartbreaking post and tribute to his late sister on the 28th anniversary of her death.
The beloved princess was just 36 when she died in a horror car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, that also killed her partner Dodi Fayed and the vehicle’s driver. The shocking collision and the princesses untimely death sent shock waves around the world as people share tributes and messages of love for the royal nearly three decades on. The late princess’s brother Charles Spencer shared an emotional tribute to his sister on what he described as an “impossible day”.

Princess Diana was buried on the ground of Althorp Park, in Northampton, her family home. The royal was originally meant to be buried in a family vault at a local church but her brother changed the plan and had her laid to rest on a small secluded tree-covered island – known as Oval Lake Grave.
Charles Spencer, on X, shared images of the island and a beautiful bunch of flowers to remember his late sister. The Earl said: “We cut some gorgeous flowers from the gardens at @AlthorpHouse this morning, for the Island. Always an impossible day.” The Earl took over as custodian of the estate since his father, John Spencer, died in 1992.

Diana’s death shocked the world when the car she was in crashed into the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in the French capital, with emergency services flocking to the scene in the aftermath of the devastating crash.
Millions of people across the globe woke up to the heavy news about her death the next morning, as mourners descended on Buckingham Palace to lay flowers and tributes to the loved princess.

Despite this, a royal expert has since revealed the immediate steps Queen Elizabeth II took to protect her grandsons, Prince William and Prince Harry, from the tragic and life-changing news.
To ensure the young royals did not learn about their mother’s sad passing from the news, the Queen reportedly had an item removed from their Balmoral residence – where they were staying at the time.
In Channel 5’s The Day Diana Died documentary, which aired last night (30 August), Tina Brown, author of The Diana Chronicles, reflected on how the Royal Family planned to break the news to Diana’s sons.

The late Queen decided not to wake up William and Harry in the middle of the night to share the tragic news, leaving it to the then Prince Charles to deliver the heart-wrenching news later.
Tina revealed that the Queen temporarily banned two items from their Balmoral home: “The Queen immediately said that every TV, every radio set had to be removed. The only TV sets that remained were in the private rooms of the Queen and Prince Philip.”
The royal exert added: “For her, the only important thing was to protect Harry and William from the loss of their mother.”
