Melania Trump branded ‘rude’ for ‘ignoring’ Queen Camilla during state visit

A video of Melania Trump and Queen Camilla at the state banquet has gone viral, with some people claiming the First Lady “ignored” the Queen Consort

First Lady Melania Trump has come under fire for allegedly “snubbing” the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, during a state visit, with her choice of attire also raising eyebrows. As she graced the state banquet, all eyes were on Melania’s ensemble.

She chose to wear a striking canary yellow off-the-shoulder dress by Caroline Herrera, which she complemented with nude heels and a pair of emerald earrings; however, while some deemed the look to be “inappropriate”, others were left pondering if her belt was pink or purple, sparking a lively debate online. Now, the First Lady is back in the spotlight, as a clip has gone viral where it appears she “ignored” the Duchess of Cornwall at the state banquet.
In the video, shared on TikTok, it’s suggested that Melania “blatantly ignored” the Duchess as they mingled at the prestigious event, with a humorous song added to highlight the moment. The Duchess is seen saying something to Melania, but she seems to be looking away from her and engaging in conversation with Prince William instead.

This follows reports that the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate, was given a “secret mission” with Melania.

Since being posted, the video has been viewed over 200,000 times and people were quick to share their opinions. While many thought it didn’t look good, others leapt to defend the First Lady, reports the Mirror.

One individual commented: “She is the Queen Consort who is the host. That’s rude of her.”

Another chimed in: “She has no class and is dressed so inappropriately.”

One social media user responded: “Poor Camilla, she’s talking to herself.”

Another added: “Melania – not professional.”

However, some defended Melania, pointing out that she was engaged in conversation with another person at the time. One person commented: “She wasn’t ignoring Queen Camilla, she was engaged in a conversation with somebody else.

“Just because Camilla is Queen doesn’t mean etiquette flies out of the window.”

Another chimed in: “People are so mean. It’s not ignoring. Melania and Queen Camilla are just talking to another person who is sitting next to Melania.”

Another individual noted: “Melania was not ignoring Queen Camilla. She was talking to Prince William.”

On Wednesday (September 17), Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, were treated like royalty as they dined at Windsor Castle. However, the outfits worn by guests became a topic of discussion.

Many quickly commented on the bold style of Melania’s dress, which revealed her shoulders. This was in stark contrast to Kate Middleton’s full-length hand-embroidered gold lace evening coat by Phillipa Lepley, worn over a silk crepe gown.

Camilla donned a floor-length Royal blue Fiona Clare gown, a sapphire and diamond tiara and a diamond necklace. The First Lady, Princess of Wales and Queen Camilla all wore floor-sweeping dresses, but Melania’s off-the-shoulder number, showing a hint of skin, was deemed “inappropriate”.

Ladies within the Royal Family traditionally don modest, conservative attire for formal occasions, such as state banquets. Fashion protocol expert, Lucy Hulme, who appeared on The Royal Family Channel on YouTube in November 2021, explained that guests are anticipated to adhere to dress code guidelines when encountering a member of the Royal Family.

In conversation with The Independent, Hume referenced the annual Royal Ascot as an illustration, where the dress requirements for the main Royal enclosure stipulate that women’s clothing for both royals and attendees must “come below the knee” and feature covered shoulders.

The Royal Family posted a photograph on Instagram displaying Queen Camilla, King Charles, Donald Trump and the First Lady positioned in a line for a picture during the dazzling event. Whilst some individuals believed Melania appeared “amazing,” others were swift to highlight a possible mistake.

Discussing Melania’s ensemble, one observer remarked: “The belt is just…nuh-uh. I may be mistaken but isn’t it inappropriate protocol to wear off the shoulder to such a function?”.
