Fans of Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg on BBC “switched off” just minutes into the show. The presenter announced that she was at 10 Downing Street to interview the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, but the news brought complaints from viewers.
Taking to Twitter/X, one fan said that they wouldn’t be watching. They angrily penned: “TV off for the Starmer SS promo bits. #bbclaurak.” Another fumed: “Keir Starmer is so out of his depth, has been since he became PM and it’s so clear in yet another interview with #BBCLauraK right now, again he has a prepared script he wants to monologue no matter the question put to him, none of it is convincing, he is not convincing at all.” While a third complained: “Starmer says he ‘understands’. No, he doesn’t, and he never will. He’s utterly incompetent and totally out of his depth. #BBCLaurak.”

One more person fumed: “The most hated creature in the UK. It doesn’t matter what he says, @UKLabour are done. Talking constantly over Laura shows how weak he is. #BBCLaurak.”
“#bbclaurak This interview is just an extension of PMQs – questions asked but Starmer not answering them,” another said.
Laura opened the show with a huge blow to the Labour leader. She began: “Happy New Year and welcome to 2026. Welcome to a special programme with an exclusive and extended interview with the Prime Minister.”
“This year could make or break Sir Keir Starmer’s government,” she added.
After the titles rolled, Laura continued her blows on the politician, as she said: “The Prime Minister has been in trouble for months, with him being under pressure to show you he’s the right man for the job.
“Maybe that is why he accepted our invitation to have a longer conversation with us than normal to explain to us why he thinks that he is not going anywhere.”
The BBC show then cut to a clip of Starmer adamantly declaring that he “will be sitting in this seat by 2027.” He added: “If this long-form interview works, we can try it again in January of next year as well.”
