Princess Anne is not the hardest-working royal of 2025, as she has been overtaken by her brother, the King, according to new research. The Princess Royal, who has consistently held the top spot in terms of carrying out engagements throughout the year, may have worked more days this year but has ultimately taken on fewer engagements than the monarch, who is still undergoing cancer treatment.
King Charles has now been crowned the hardest-working royal of 2025, clocking up a total of 532 engagements in 12 months, 50 more than his sister, who carried out 478. According to the Mirror’s analysis of the Court Circular, the official record of royal engagements, the King carried out 22% of them, which were 2,458 in total.
The third spot was taken by their sibling, Prince Edward, who carried out 313 engagements, while his wife, Duchess Sophie, came in fourth, with 235 engagements.

Queen Camilla took the fifth spot with 228 engagements in 2025. The Duke of Gloucester was ranked sixth with 212 engagements, followed by the heir, Prince William, who carried out 202 engagements throughout the year.
Prince Richard’s wife, the Duchess of Gloucester, came in seventh with 113 engagements, followed by the 90-year-old Duke of Kent who clocked up 77 engagements.
Princess Catherine continued her gradual return to royal duties following her cancer battle, with a total of 68 engagements in a year.
The research, which includes all engagements up until December 18, has been compiled by royal expert Patricia Treble.
It showed that the overall number of royal engagements in 2025 was up by 22% compared to 2025.
The King alone upped his workload by 49% while the Princess of Wales by a whopping 423% – she undertook 13 engagements in 2024 and 68 in 2025.
Ms Treble told the outlet: “Considering he spent the entire year undergoing regular cancer treatment, the King set the pace when it comes to royal duty for the House of Windsor.
“There’s a common belief that Anne is the hardest-working royal. I beg to differ. Though the Princess Royal did the most days of work (186) in 2025, it was her big brother who did the largest number of engagements (532).
“The three royal siblings – Charles, Anne, and Edward – dominate the royal work year. They are the only royals to have done more than 300 engagements each.
“Indeed, Charles is the only one in the 500s (532, as of Dec 18), Anne is the only royal in the 400s (478) and Edward is the only in the 300s (313).”
The royals are set to make a grand appearance in just a few days time as they all braec for Christmas Day in Sandringham, which includes the traditional church service in the morning.
