“ROYAL FAREWELL REVEALED…” — Why Prince Harry Won’t Attend the Duchess of Kent’s Funeral

Prince Harry is not expected to attend the funeral of the late Katharine, Duchess of Kent.

Though the Duke of Sussex was in the U.K. and Ukraine last week for a series of charitable engagements, he is not expected to attend the Duchess of Kent’s funeral this week in England.

Katharine was married to Queen Elizabeth’s cousin Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, and on Sept. 5, Buckingham Palace announced her death at age 92.

The palace later announced that her Catholic funeral service will take place at Westminster Cathedral in London on Tuesday, Sept. 16, but Prince Harry probably won’t be there as his wife, Meghan Markle, said he’s back home.

On Sept. 14, the Duchess of Sussex celebrated her husband’s return to the U.S. with a toast on her As ever brand’s Instagram Stories.

“When your beau is back in town…” read text over a photo of As ever’s Napa Valley Rosé being poured into two wine glasses.

Harry was back in California for his birthday, as he turned 41 on Sept. 15.

The Duchess of Kent died before Prince Harry’s trip to the U.K. began, and following her death, PEOPLE understands that he privately sent his condolences to her family.

Though the Duchess of Kent stepped back from royal duties in 1996 and dropped the title of “Her Royal Highness” in 2002, she continued to attend some royal family events, including Prince Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2018.

Katharine is survived by her husband the Duke of Kent, their three children and 10 grandchildren.

Her funeral — which is historic as the first Catholic funeral for a member of the British royal family — will be held at Westminster Cathedral on Tuesday, with King Charles, Queen Camilla and other members of the royal family expected to attend.
