Royal stepchildren thrust into palace life – including Peter Phillips’ new stepdaughter Georgina Sperling

For the likes of Georgina Sperling and Wolfie Mapelli-Mozzi, their lives changed overnight when they wre thrust into the public eye

or the likes of Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, their role in the British royal family is a path long laid out for them.

From birth, they are well equipped to deal with the ongoing public pressure that comes with being part of the most photographed family in the country. But some members of the royal family were who were less prepared for life in the spotlight.

The modernisation of the monarchy in recent years has meant that should their first marriages not work out, royals and their family members are able to find love again.

But the knock-on effect of being part of a royal blended family is that overnight, you go from living a normal life to being propelled into the public eye.

Georgina Sperling

The daughter of Peter Phillips’ beautiful bride and NHS nurse, Harriet Sperling, was thrust into the spotlight at the royal family’s annual Easter service at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, in April.

The occasion saw Georgina, 13, make her public debut alongside her now-stepsisters, Savannah, 14 and Isla Phillips, 14, following Peter and Harriet’s wedding on Saturday.

The teen looked noticeably nervous in the photographs, but fit in wonderfully with her new siblings, the trio dressed in matching navy blue outfits.

Georgina was then front and centre of her mother’s wedding celebrations at the weekend, and according to body language expert Judi James, had a “strong affectionate bond” with her stepsisters.

She told HELLO!: “Blended families and weddings aren’t always an easy mix, but Harriet’s strong affectionate bonds with her step-daughters looked apparent here from the way the three girls worked so well together as a bridesmaid team, using high levels of mirroring to the point where it would have been impossible to pick out the daughter from the step-daughters.”

HELLO! understands that Georgina was first introduced to her future family at Balmoral last year. Among those whom Georgina met were the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children.

Harriet shares Georgina with her former husband, Antonio St John Sperling, who was a fitness instructor.

Christopher Woolf Mapelli Mozzi

Princess Beatrice’s stepson, Christopher Woolf, who goes by ‘Wolfie’, was thrust into the spotlight when his father, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, married Sarah Ferguson’s eldest daughter in 2020.

Edoardo shares the now-10-year-old with his former partner, architect Dara Huang, whom he was engaged to prior to their split in 2018, two years after Wolfie was born in 2016.

Wolfie splits his time between his mother’s London home and his father’s homes in St James’ Palace and the Cotswolds and is occasionally seen stepping out at royal events, the youngster having been previously photographed at the Princess of Wales’ Together At Christmas concert in previous years.

Wolfie has an incredible bond with his stepmother, with Dara previously heaping praise on their blended family setup. Dara previously told Harpers Bazaar: “Wolfie has had two sets of parents trying to help him on both sides, and I just think, ‘The more, the merrier.’ I feel lucky to have such positive people around him, who really embrace him – because it didn’t have to be so easy.”

“It’s all about your point of view,” she added. “I don’t understand people who are divorced and then hold their children as collateral; that doesn’t make any sense. It’s about creating a happy home and lifestyle.”

Laura Lopes

Queen Camilla’s daughter, Laura Lopes, and her brother Tom – whom she shares with her ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles –  were propelled into the spotlight when their mother’s relationship with the then- Prince Charles went public in 1999.

While Laura tends to keep a low profile, she and her elder brother lived a privileged upbringing and have settled well into blended royal family life. They grew up at Bolehyde Manor and later Middlewick House, both in Wiltshire.

In 2006, Laura married Calvin Klein model-turned-chartered accountant Harry Lopes in Wiltshire in 2006 in front of friends and family, including Prince William, Prince Harry, and her mother, Camilla.

Laura’s eldest daughter, Eliza,16, was given the honour of being a bridesmaid at Prince William and Princess Kate’s wedding in 2011. She was seen being picked up by her step-grandfather, then-Prince Charles,

Meanwhile, twins Gus and Louis, 15, have very important roles at the King’s coronation in 2023, appearing alongside their royal grandmother on the balcony of Buckingham Palace in their roles as Pages of Honour. Gus had to put on a brave face for the historic occasion, the youngster breaking his arm in a “bike accident” just days before the big day.

Tom Parker Bowles

Meanwhile, Queen Camilla’s eldest child, Tom, isn’t afraid of living his life in the public eye as an acclaimed food writer and critic, and he has even appeared on shows such as MasterChef in the past.

The food writer was married to fashion journalist Sara Buys, who has worked for Harpers & Queen magazine and Town & Country magazine. They met in 1998 and dated for five years before tying the knot on 10 September 2005.

The wedding was held at St. Nicholas Church in Rotherfield Greys, Oxfordshire, and was attended by members of the royal family, including the then Prince Charles and Prince William. The wedding reception was held at the Parker Bowles family home, Middlewick House. The former couple have since welcomed two children.

In 2018, they split, and Tom began dating former journalist Alice Procope for almost two years before she sadly died of cancer at the age of 42. Tom and his former wife Sara have two children: a daughter Lola, born in October 2007 and son, Freddy, born in February 2010, who joined his cousins as a page boy at the Coronation.
