‘The king is hardly using Buckingham Palace’
Grant Harrold, who was a royal butler from 2004 to 2011, told GB News that he sees Windsor Castle becoming the royal family’s base going forwards.
He claimed that the monarch, 76, seemingly already reducing his time there, coupled with the Prince and Princess of Wales’ imminent house move to Forest Lodge in Windsor, is laying the foundations for this change.
Windsor is becoming more of an ‘official’ residence of the King.
“The king is hardly using Buckingham Palace at all now. While Buckingham Palace is under renovation, I think there’s more to it than that. Being a traditionalist, the king loves Windsor,” he told GB News in collaboration with OLBG.

He continued: “He’s been doing a lot at Windsor for years, especially in the gardens. Windsor is becoming more of an ‘official’ residence of the king. It’s where all the big events are taking place.”
Harrold also pointed out that the late Queen Elizabeth II had also made Windsor Castle her official residence following the Covid-19 pandemic.
He suggested that perhaps Buckingham Palace might take on a more ceremonial role, like palaces in Europe, used to host more formal royal events and open to the public.

The former butler also went on: “The Prince and Princess of Wales moving in very nearby adds to this theory, especially as it’s said to be their ‘forever home’. I think William will use Windsor as his official base as well.”

Prince William has lived on the Windsor estate with his wife, Kate, and their three children, George, Charlotte, and Louis, since the summer of 2022.

The family-of-five currently reside at the four-bedroom Adelaide Cottage. However, they will soon upsize to the nearby Forest Lodge, another Grade II listed building.
Forest Lodge reportedly features eight bedrooms, as well as extensive grounds and a private tennis court.
A date for their move hasn’t been confirmed. But it seems they could be in their new home by Christmas.
Some royal experts suggest the family will remain living there, even when William eventually becomes king.
