Meghan Markle just got really petty – I’m embarrassed for her

Express reporter Adam Toms issues his verdict as a video has resurfaced of the Duchess.

Speaking on camera for the world to see is oftentimes a risky exercise – especially when you’re expressing personal opinions about something you’re already involved in, or might enter into in the future. Meghan Markle has fallen into this trap of late, when talking about an incredibly important subject: candles. A clip of the Duchess of Sussex on stage in 2016 has resurfaced, during which she says selling $100 (£74) candles is “obnoxious”. Some years later, it seems she has had a change of heart.

Currently, customers can purchase a $256 (£190) Signature Scent Collection under her As Ever brand.

Its description reads: “This exclusive set brings together our full As Ever Signature Candle Collection, our newest and highly coveted scents paired with our best-selling and fan favorites. A luxurious and stand-out set certain to delight the most discerning of palates, and offer a stunning scent for every occasion whether in your own home, as a hostess gift, or to share with the ones you love.”

Lucky buyers get four signature candles, described as “comfort in the air”, “daydreams in the garden”, a “warm welcome” and “love at first light”.

In Meghan’s own words – that could strike one as quite obnoxious. I’m embarassed for her.

Candles “No. 506” and “No. 604” were “lovingly crafted and curated by our founder and named after the birthdates of her son Archie and her daughter Lilibet”, the site adds.

Confusion reigns as to whether Meghan wants her children in or out of the spotlight.

She and her husband, Prince Harry, are, of course, firmly out of Royal Family duties, attempting to remain relevant on the other side of the Atlantic.

Some people, presumably, are fans of the couple, despite them abandoning their duties, and buy this stuff.

I wonder what these purchasers (who clearly have more money than they know what to do with) think of the woman they, for some reason, revere, criticising the type of product she is now fleecing them for.

Let’s hope it helps them realise that she has now been exposed as a hypocrite and does not deserve their attention.

Then again, if they’re spending that much on lumps of wax – bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase burning money – I bet they’re already beyond saving.
