His Majesty is expected to reflect on his own recovery journey
King Charles has recorded a personal broadcast message in support of Stand Up To Cancer, which will air on Friday evening as part of the charity’s major 2025 fundraising event.
The King will use the address to stress the importance of cancer screening programmes in enabling early diagnosis.
The 77-year-old monarch will also reflect on his own recovery journey following a diagnosis of an unspecified form of cancer in February 2024.
The broadcast forms part of Stand Up To Cancer 2025, a joint campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4.
Launched on December 5, the week-long national initiative aims to raise public awareness of screening availability, increase funding for research and support people living with cancer.
Following the King’s message, Davina McCall will present a unique live segment from a cancer clinic at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
The programme will include stories from patients, doctors and researchers working at the forefront of treatment and care.
Ahead of the event, Stand Up To Cancer has launched a new online screening checker designed to help the public understand which breast, bowel and cervical screening programmes they may be eligible for.

The King’s decision to speak publicly about screening and early diagnosis follows nearly two years of weekly cancer treatment for His Majesty as an outpatient at an undisclosed hospital.
His condition was announced in February 2024, prompting a temporary reduction in public duties before his gradual return to engagements in spring that year.
Stand Up To Cancer, first launched in the UK in 2012, brings together celebrities, clinicians and members of the public to raise millions for translational research.

The campaign funds clinical trials and supports pioneering scientists working to fast-track new cancer treatments.
This year’s broadcast schedule will include live fundraising moments, special editions of popular programmes and appearances from actors, comedians and charity ambassadors.
The King’s message will open the evening’s coverage before the charity’s flagship live event begins in Cambridge.

Charles’s broadcast on Friday will be the first time he has spoken publicly about his own recovery in the context of a national health campaign.
The message was recorded in the Morning Room at Clarence House during the final week of November.
It will air at 8pm at the start of Channel 4’s flagship night of programming dedicated to cancer awareness, early diagnosis and research funding.
